Summary: What happens when you like someone who's different?
I mean, really different.
I kind of walked into this one, by suggesting that interspecies romance might start with a shy Gorn reciting original poetry to a lovely, blushing Cardassian. So here goes!

Summary: Submitted as an entry for the June 2011 challenge on TrekBBS.
The first Puritan settlers of America sought religious freedom, but only for themselves. While they accepted non-Christian faiths, the Puritans considered persons belonging to other Christian sects to be false Christians. The earliest settlers of the American south believed in the freedom to discriminate on the basis of race. More recently, sectarian warfare in Iraq between the Sunni and Shi’a sects of Islam was kept in check by the secular dictator Saddam Hussein. Following his downfall in Operation Iraqi Freedom, religious extremists considered themselves free to continue the blood feuds of the last thousand years. And in the 24th century during the waning months of the Dominion War, the Cardassians sought freedom from their Dominion overlords. But what exactly does freedom mean to a race that values order and security over what Terrans would label as individual civil liberties? Told from the vantage points of three major factions that arose from the fall of the Dominion-allied government, this is the story of how the populace basks in its newfound freedom.

Summary: In a universe where the Federation fell to the Borg in 2370, the remaining populace of the Alpha and Beta quadrants struggle to survive against the ever expanding, ever stronger Borg.
But fifteen years later a subspace signal is sent to all Starfleet officers-a signal telling them to head back to their ships they had hidden away and abandoned so long ago and to make preparations to fight the Borg.
Now as the officers assemble and the fleet tries to get back on its feet, the remaining forces of the Alpha and Beta quadrants gather together to try one last time to beat the unbeatable foe ... to stop the monsters that are the Borg.
But as the forces come together the Borg become more unpredicatable and even more deadly. It's up to the remaining Alpha and Beta quadrant powers to stop the Borg sooner rather than later ... otherwise, there won't be anyone left alive to save.

Summary: The USS Kestrel, an aging Miranda class, serving as part of the Border Service has the thankless task of patrolling some of the murkier corners of the Federation. As the seat of Federation power in a dangerous and wild region of space, the Kestrel acts to paraphrase her firebrand captain, Captain Gregory McGregor, as the rule and the law, the line in the sand, the first and last line of defense for the Federation.
"So we can't be calling in the cavalry at the drop of a hat. We are the cavalry. We stand the line, we duke it out, we shout them down, we clean their windscreens, and we set out the welcome mat. It's not all bad you know."
This is the first story featuring the ramshackle, rough and ready crew of the Kestrel. I'd call them an unorthodox crew but hey isn't every crew unorthodox in their own way!
Led by the acerbic, sarcastic, bombastic, over the top, pain-in-the-ass, coarse and unprofessional Captain Gregory McGregor. Just the type of behaviour to get stuff on the border done! There's no time for Jean-Luc's niceties here!
The Border Dogs might be seen as the ‘poor cousins' of the Fleet and the Miranda might be seen as the ‘Ford pick-up of Starfleet' but the Kestrel in the humble opinion of her Captain shows the Fleeters how to do things the proper way.

The USS Rommel is one of the ships that is heading for the frontline to drive back the enemy into their rapidly shrinking space.
