The Enterprise is orbiting Exo II when Captain Kirk's behavior begins to trouble Spock.
After 'The Menagerie', Christine Chapel comes to Spock's quarters. It's time for them both to explain their relationships with Number One. Perhaps a different take on the reason Number One and Christine Chapel are so similar.
Possibly implied past Number One/Spock. Spock & Chapel gen or, if you prefer, pre-Spock/Chapel.
The replicate Tobias has died, and now Spock's inexplicable behavior has even Dr. McCoy looking toward Vulcan for medical assistance.

It takes place at the end of the five year mission, and explains the distant relationship between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy at the beginning of The Motion Picture.

This is a sequel to ‘The Last Full Measure,’ and is an AU retelling and follow-on to the events of the TOS episode ‘Errand of Mercy.’ This is the journey of those left behind – both physical and emotional. While the prologue will give one enough information to follow this story, it’s highly recommended that you read LFM first, to get the full effect and ramifications of the events in that story, which severely impact this story.
