Summary:
After years of tension building up, the Dominion war ignites. Commander S'rel, first officer on the Galaxy-class starship Athena, finds herself in command after only one tour as XO, when the captain is killed during the attack on the shipyards at Torros III. Amids the fighting she must make radical decisions to safeguard her crew, with little time to deal with her own inexperience.

True to her Vulcan beliefs she invokes logic in every decision, but logic isn't always the best way to deal with a more emotional crew. Then she find herself commanding a ship cut off behind enemy lines, facing a trial by fire
