rn

A reluctant, newly promoted captain is given command of a 90-year old Constitution-class starship brought out of storage and refit during the waning days of the Dominion War. Now, in the aftermath of that destructive conflict, the Gibraltar is assigned to allied occupied Cardassian space. Their mission is to assist with the desperate humanitarian aid effort to rebuild a shattered Cardassian nation.

The crew of Gibraltar is not the finest ever assembled. They are an average Starfleet crew with limited resources assigned to tasks better suited to larger, more capable vessels. Nevertheless, Captain Donald Sandhurst and his crew struggle to fulfill their duty and accomplish their missions during a dark chapter of the Federation's history.

Summary:

The USS Kestrel, an ageing Miranda class, serving as part of the Border Service has the thankless task of patrolling some of the murkier corners of the Federation.                                                        As the seat of Federation power in a dangerous and wild region of space, the Kestrel acts to paraphrase her firebrand captain, Captain Gregory McGregor, 'as the rule and the law, the line in the sand, the first and last line of defence for the Federation'. They can't call in the cavalry because they are the cavalry. They stand the line, they duke it out, they shout them down; they are the Border Patrol Service, otherwise known as the Border Dogs.                                                                                                       A ramshackle, rough and ready crew, led by the acerbic, sarcastic, bombastic, over the top, pain-in-the-ass, coarse and unprofessional Captain Gregory McGregor. Just the type of behaviour to get stuff on the border done! There's no time for Jean-Luc's niceties here!
The Border Dogs might be seen as the ‘poor cousins' of the Fleet and the Miranda might be seen as the ‘Ford pick-up of Starfleet' but the Kestrel in the humble opinion of her Captain shows the Fleeters how to do things the proper way.

Summary:

Stardate 44000.4:  The Federation starship USS Enterprise, under the command of Captain William T. Riker, failed to recover Captain Picard and destroy the Borg cube.  Instead, the cube assimilated Earth, turning Sector 001 into another Borg colony world.

With the seat of the Federation now in ruin, the rest of the Federation members moved quickly, calling out to every neighboring race, asking for assistance.  The next target on the Borg's agenda was Vulcan, and while Starfleet did it's best to fend off the incoming cube, it was the Klingon High Council which acted to save the lives of over a billion Vulcan citizens, by evacuating them from their homes.

After the assimilation of Vulcan, it was clear that each of the Federation member worlds could easily be their next target.  It was then that K'mpec came forward with the might of the Klingon Empire and took the reins of the remaining mobile forces, including Starfleet (what was left of it).  The surviving members of the makeshift Federation Council voted unanimously to accept the Empire's leadership, by forming a new body of government: the Galaxy Alliance.

Summary:

Okay. I've tried a million times to come up with a simple (or even a not so simple) way to explain this storyline and I've failed every time. I guess because there's just no way to stick it in any particular genre, or sum it up in any simple terms.

So, this time I'll just go with stating the facts: The Arc of the Wolf is a series of stories, some short, some much longer, some not even written yet, some half-written and sitting on my hard drive, some even contributed by other authors, that spans well over a century in the lifetime of Montgomery Scott. Long before TOS, and long after it.

I can guarantee that 1.) Nothing in it contradicts canon; in fact, part of the reason I've even written it is because I wanted to explain a whole lot of things I saw in canon that didn't make sense without further context. 2.) It's a pretty family friendly series -- some occasional cussing, more than you'd see on TV, but nothing gratuitous. The highest rated story is PG-13. 3.) It's written all out of order, and there are still a number of stories missing out of it, but the earlier pieces are pretty cohesive.

Not much more to be said about it, really. It takes a very close-to-the-ground, human-eye view of things. It's got a bit of everything; from joy to tragedy, from deep and intense to total comedy. All of it, though, is character driven. (And yes, it even has some art to go with it; ask if you're curious enough.)

Feedback is adored, but not required -- I'll be happy if you read it and it makes you think.
