In the wake of the darkest moment of his young life thus far, thirteen-year-old Skrain Dukat takes the first steps on the journey that will define an entire lifetime.

A prominent Cardassian rebel has been imprisoned on Bajor by a vedek of the “True Prophets,” and subjected to an awful degradation. Yet sometimes it is in weakness when one becomes strong...it all comes down to the choices that you make.

Skrain and Ziyal Dukat are within minutes of freedom from Bajor.  Will they survive their escape from the planet of the Pah-Wraiths?  And at what cost?

This story follows the events of "Exits in the Haze" and "A Door to the Soul," and precedes "The Guide."

Two Cardassias.  Two completely different fates.  An experimental weapon sweeps resistance fighter Skrain Dukat into a world violently uprooted from all that he knows. 

In that world, Gul Atira Jarol must face the painful shadows of her own past when she suddenly finds herself looking into the eyes of a man who in her world was at the center of it all..

Two heroes have fallen.  But to Akellen Macet--they are family.

This is the tale of how darkness fell over the Mirror Universe, as remembered by one who is of the Prophets, in the presence of a very different Dukat who is of neither his universe nor the Mirror.

(Story begins with an excerpt from The Lightless Ends of the World, co-authored by myself and Gul Re'jal--section written by NG, though there is one mention of Gul Jarol, who is Re'jal's character.  Originally submitted as a writing prompt response on the forum.)

There is nothing more precious than the purity of an uncorrupted dream.

Before the years of pain and anguish each universe knew in its own way, those who would someday be known as Cardassians marveled at the revelation of a whole other world right in their backyard.  Can you imagine what it would be like if Mars still boasted a breathable atmosphere and running water?  Tehir and Miti Mejurak could tell you all about it...

In another universe ravaged by the Narada--a very different Cardassia responds to the suffering of its neighbors.
