Well that was an interesting idea, how would thing gone for Voyager, if they learnt the Dominion war was as good as lost, I like how you made the founders found a use for the capture races DNA, even as they burnt away the races that would never surrender.
Still was fun to see N. Wildman commander a second federation/confederation ship against the Borg and then leading the Dominion to their death. A sad sign that it seem via hints that the Dominion and founders might have change under Odo guidance and the introduction of the alpha/beta races DNA but the residual angry in Kim and the others means they didn’t want to try diplomacy with the dominion.

An excellent 'what-if' short story.

Wow-how did I ever miss this? What a blazing story. You can feel the hate in Kim's voice. I'd love to read more in this universe.

This story could make for a prologue to an intriguing alternate universe story. Had the Federation been defeated, Voyager would be in an even more difficult position.
First off, I enjoyed the diversity of the Dominion vessel's crew. It's interesting to note that each of the members of Alpha Quadrant believe the Dominion seeks peaceful coexistence with its neighbors. Perhaps, to an extent, even the Vorta believe that.
And now throw in the remnants of Voyager's crew with Naomi Wildman as captain of a new Enterprise and Harry Kim as President of this Federation-in-exile. I can certainly picture a much older Harry Kim giving off a Dark Emperor vibe. And even knowing how much Naomi, she still sounded rather child-like when reading her dialogue: "Nice of you to finally show up, Dominion."
A rather chilling ending indeed especially with the last line: " Tell them. We're coming."

I remember reading this over on TrekBBS and my reaction had been - Caw blimey! Terrific stuff. It still is however the scope of the tale and the big twist on the turn of events must have rendered me largely speechless. I thought I had reviewed more than what i did say over there.
I started by saying that it was a great twist on the challenge and an intriguing fate for the crew of Voyager. They really went on to create something. The fate of the Voyager crew is more than just intriguing. From your story we get an overview of the events as such and how things must have panned out for Janeway and co. After their determination to get home and coming so near in mnay ways with the Pathfinder Project and hopes for the fututre it is gutting to think that they had to choose to give up the dream and had no home to return to. Of course, being our intrepid crew, giving up wasn't a straightforward option. They decide to make something of their situation. They decide to create a new Federation.
However, they geared it in preparation for this fateful day. Wow, talk about payback. The leading the Vorta to the homeworld, taunting them with their advanced technology, it all led up to a great big finish and a chilling threat to end: Tell them. We're coming. Whoa-bejeepers. Great delivery that.
The Vorta/human hybrid is also a chilling development and a great expansion on what the Dominion would do if they won. Enslaving and using the human race in such a genetic manner. Very Dominion like. Very scary.
On another note, Kim got his promotion! Ha! But in seriousness, seeing this development and despite being a short story we got the feel of the larger story behind it all. One would want to read more about it, the setting up of this new Federation, the advances in technology and the forging of alliances. It would make for great story as would learning how the new 'Federation' takes on the Dominion. But with that said, the story is also so self-contained that it works superbly as a stand-alone with all the other potentials spinning of in the reader's imagination. Great stuff.
