No...he has to come back! He has to figure out that Jim was lying! This is exactly the problem with these two--they sacrifice too much for each other, when if they'd just let themselves be selfish for half a second, they'd be happy. And yet...they couldn't act any differently and still be themselves. Sigh. That was exquisite and so painful. Well done.

Wow. That was so painful. It's so hard to see this happening between them, but you make it seem inevitable, and so perfectly in character.

This is very poignant and insightful. You have such a grasp on both men's characters. I don't usually go for K/S slash, but this is so much more than that. Thank you.

OMG.
Dear Anna,
your story is painfully honest. No fairy tales for your readers.
As always, it´s a delight to discover in your writing those little things that ties the story with written and unwritten ones. AH, DCalC, TLaT. Parts of a long life story, better enjoyed when the reader catchs in them the pieces of the big puzzle, and suddenly, everything makes sense.

As a character study, the story has a world to offer. All the fears that can be find in RL are here, as all the wrong choices.

Water.
Water is always present. Rain droplets falling, a glass emptied without thinking, the ocean. Spock loves the rain and don´t fear deep waters.

A wonderful story from a wonderful story line.
Thanks for sharing.
V.
