Trying to gain a balanced picture--no! He was looking for something. Glad he moved back without too much of an argument, but am now wondering if the reason he did so is because he found what he wanted.

Author's Response: Dastardly Deferi!

Good to see an alert Engineer, really enjoying these meet the Pathfinder crew short stories.

So very right for Shen to block the delegate from the seeing the warp core. What with the Species 8472 threat anything could happen.

Thanks for the update to this. Cannot wait to see what you come up with for Day#4.

Author's Response: Yes. Deferi have never struck me as technologically sound.

Hmm. Is the delegate a member of Species 8472? Was he accessing material he shouldn't have been? The paranoia is beginning to get to me.

Author's Response: Psst.. the Deferi.. he's behind you...

Balanced picture, my butt, lizard boy.  You were totally spying.

I'm not familiar with the STO timeline, but I'm interested to see where this is leading ...

Author's Response: Hehe lizard boy. I'm totally calling them that the next time I go to Defera.

Interesting. Are the Deferi from STO or are they your own invention? Either way, nice job of painting an intriguing alien culture and following that up with their actions during the tour. A good portrayal of Shen once again. Look forward to seeing where you take this next.

Author's Response: Sorry! I could have swore I answered all the feedback for this chapter. Sheesh. They're from STO. They're like a race of pacifists who won't even left a finger when the Breen are abducting their people and the Borg are invading, they expect the Federation and the Empire to fix their problems.

Yeah, the Deferi are officially annoying.

It's not even curiosity or espionage. It's more like, we're so incredibly OCD that we have to touch EVERYTHING!

It's like a race of reptilian Sheldon Coopers.

Author's Response: Hahaha! Reptilian Sheldon Coopers. That's a good description since they won't do ANYTHING unless things are just right...

I sense trouble from that one. I wonder if I'm right! A little too harmless to be harmless, perhaps, for that delegate hanging around?

Author's Response: Deferi ARE relatively harmless.. relatively... you know.. for Deferi...

Hmmm. Looking for a balanced view or something more is site lurking beneath the motivations? Certainly adds a layer of complexity to this little conference either way as the various delegates a all have their own motivations, angles and ways to test the Starfleeters. Continuing to enjoy the developing story.

Author's Response: Thank you! :D

Well Done again, L'Gran feelings about Cardassian is understandable. so another interesting character and your Cardassian seem spot on.

Shall be a fun trip for the Pathfinder.

Nice continuation.  The tensions mount.  Looks like not only Tanaka has issues, but L'Gren does as well, and the Cardassians are doing their best to capitalize on those feelings.  Also seems like captain Rhys is playing her hand as well, trying to make things a little less comfortable for her 'guests,' and trying to get her first officer to get a handle on his own demons.  This is not gonna be a fun ride - on the ship, I mean - the story is great so far. :)

Even after all this time so little trust in those dastardly Cardies. I sense this building all through the week and so far, so good.

Author's Response: Glad you're enjoying it! I always like writing for Cardassians when I'm feeling devious.

Oh, the lack of fun times are ahead for sure. I don't envy these guys but this is important work. Like the details on the Cardassian mind games (so true) and the way you weave in the backdrop of AR-558 (what a nasty place).

Author's Response: I should do an exchange between L'Gran and Rhys about AR-558 for a WFW or Monthly Challenge one day. She didn't serve there herself, but the symbiote did.

Very good premise you've got set up here. I could picture Commander L'Gran's attitude towards the Cardassian's given the recent history.

Thanks for sharing.

Delicious little tensions all round. Me likes this very much. Skyl is obviously trying to push buttons. It's a deliberate act to assess weaknesses and strength and to test the limits. And if the likes of Tanaka or L'Gran overreact then it all serves to Skyl's purposes too as he'd construe it as a win. Grrr. Frustrating and maddening. And a dangerous game to play to boot.

Author's Response: Thank you! It's definitely a playground for Cardassians; tensions everywhere, no one is sure who to trust. Honestly I like that about Cardassians even though they piss me off to no end, I enjoyed Garak in DS9 very much.

Cardassians are so condescending.  Bleh.  And yes, the mind games.  I'm with L'Gran.  It's going to be a long trip with the Cardies around.  I'm already wondering if Skyl is more than just a diplomat  -- Obsidian Order, perhaps?  I guess I'll have to tune in tomorrow to see where this goes.

Author's Response: You know I wondered that same thing when I interacted with him in the game...

Ok, not liking Skyl... grrr. :)

A nice continuation to the story - you did a good job of developing your character through his reaction to the Cardassian delegation, a delegation that has not done anything to endear itself to him! I liked the dialogue: Skyl's passive agressiveness, L'Gran careful control, Tanaka's impulsive interjection... they all painted a nice picture of this ship and its crew.
Complicated! Very complicated. And very good! Well done.

Author's Response: Thanks Sarine! L'Gran has it tough I think. He's the oldest member of the crew, as far as comissioned officers go, so he plays mentor to everyone; even the Captain. I need to get back to work on Dark Horizons so I can explore that with him.

Definitely gonna be a long trip. They're just annoying as a form of sport, eh?

I liked how the breach of protocol (really, the meeting could've waited, I bet) makes everyone on edge and defensive. It's a little chess game, and sometimes one person wields more power than the other in this exchange.

Author's Response: Hehe thanks Jespah. I think the Cardassians will complain no matter what anyone does.

Anytime there are feuding species aboard, there's gonna be trouble. Not really familiar with ST online, but did enjoy the story, and found this beginning quite ominous. Looking forward to reading more.

Author's Response: My ultimate goal is to eventually give a clear picture of everything going on in the recent in-game story advancement through this narrative. I don't know if I'll pull it off, but I certainly hope I do.
