The baby asleep on his chest is a nice touch. A sweet, tender story.

Joyous small piece, Zeus. The best side of Will Riker.

Such a very sweet story. Good job with the Riker family, Zeusfluff. :)

Aww. I can't say I've had this experience, because I don't have children and wasn't able to be there for my niece's birth. This is very sweet. I've always liked Will and Deanna, and thought they would make a good couple, and be good parents, though we never got to see that part.
Author's Response: Thanks. You know I've always imagined Will and Deanna as parents. My only disappointment is not seeing it on screen. Originally this was going to be part of a birth scene and then Riker a few days later holding his little girl. But the birth scene fizzled out and the last part won out.

You showed a lot of emotion in such a short time. I could totally hear Riker's voice saying what you had written. Good job capturing the character.
Author's Response: Thanks Mick. I tried very much to keep Riker in-character. He's so much easier to write. Deanna on the other hand, I couldn't write her correctly and in-character even if I tried. She's a very complicated character to write. I'm glad you like this.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
So wonderful...I remember this feeling with both my boys, and now the little punks are 3 and pushing 2. I'd give anything to be able to put them to sleep like this again, and have them be so tiny and...*sigh*
Very well done, and so very true to life.
Author's Response: Thanks TemplarSora. I tried to keep Riker very much in-character and really try to 'see' what he was seeing. Normally I would've written this in 1st person, because I feel I can get into the characters head, but it actually flowed in 3rd person. Keeping it to true life wasn't too difficult. I don't have children of my own yet so I don't know how this feels, but I remember when my niece was that little.

Absolutely magical, and exactly what every dad (or mom) does and feels when they hold their newborn for the first time. Beautiful job.
Author's Response: Thanks LBD. I tried to get into Riker's head and imagine what he felt holding his daughter and watching her sleep on top of his chest. I'm glad you liked it. Stay tuned, I have more pieces to accompany this in the days to come.

Aww. Sweet piece for Riker. He would make a great dad I think, but sadly canon never went that far. Well done in capturing the quiet, little moments between a father and their child.
Author's Response: Thanks trekfan. I'd always wanted to see Riker with children. It's one thing that I wished we'd gotten to see on screen while the series was still running. If they'd gone for a season 8, I'm sure it would've happened.

Sweet. I've have two babies, and that first long moment of staring down and assessing just whose genes are expressed where is something that never leaves you. I remember looking down at my first son and realizing his hands look EXACTLY like mine. He's ten now, and his hands still look like mine. My younger son has his daddy's feet. Otherwise, though, the youngest is my clone while the eldest looks like my husband. But seeing yourself in a baby ... it's just terrifying and magical and awesome.
Author's Response: Thanks Kes. I actually had wanted to originally write in part of a birth scene and then Riker holding Lily 3 days later. But of course, when I write a birth scene, I tend to draw it out to at least 10 pages, which would've been way more than 500 words.

Aw, sweet, you definitely captured the newness of babies and parenthood.
Author's Response: Thanks Jes. I was hoping to convey the newness of babies and parenthood, even though I do not have children of my own. Writing Riker has always made me feel good. I hope that he was in-character. It's not easy sometimes.

Very nice genlte piece and certainly sets Will up as a loving doting father.
Author's Response: Thanks MF. I did my best to picture Will as a doting father. Now if only we'd seen that on-screen years ago. I'd always imagined him having several children with Troi. Stay tuned, I have more that connect to this one later in the week.

Lovely little short story to get this year ball rolling.
I could so imagine this scene and Will Riker response seems so like him. Well Done.
Author's Response: Thanks FalseBill. At first I wasn't sure if the sentence I wrote of Riker speaking was him or not, but my gut told me to go for it. I'm a sucker for any story to do with family or babies. I'm thinking of doing some scenes expanding on this.

What a perfect reflection of what it feels like to become a father. You have done a wonderful job of capturing that feeling when you look down at your child for the first time, of feeling that symbiosis with this brand new creation that you are somehow responsible for and yet is a complete miracle. I loved the way you described Riker imprinting her features, figuring out who she got what from.
A wonderful little story. Well done!
Author's Response: Thanks CaptainSarine. I hope I did a good job at portraying what it's like to be a parent. As I have no children of my own yet. Family stories have always been at the center of my writing. I may be expanding on this for the rest of the challenge.

What a lovely kickoff for the challenge! I had moments like that when mine were brand new, too. Takes me right back, so great work!
Author's Response: Thank-you. I've tried to capture the right moment between Riker and his children. Since we didn't get to see Riker and Troi have children on-screen. I found this refreshing to write. I may expand on this as this week's challenge goes on.
