Holy hell. Having to walk away from that, from rushing into battle to claim vengeance, that took a lot of mettle.

A new home under dire circumstances, under a living legend like Vaughn.

Certainly not the worst posting she could have landed.

No pressure, though. Oh, hey, you're going to kiss your sense  of individuality goodbye on short notice.

That is all!

Say yes, Calym!

I like this ending.  A possible passing of the torch, under circumstances both worse and yet far better than the last time.  I hope Calym's up for this.

Great series, CS.  Nicely done.

A hopeful ending, in all of the wreckage. I like that Calym is offered the choice where Ezri really wasn't. I like seeing Data being the glue holding together the future. I like that they're hanging on, and I hope they always do.

This is an absolutely brilliant set of stories.

Her speech gave me a shiver. The best kind of shiver. Good girl, and may you live and build an amazing resistance eventually. Seeing the Federation so devastated is heartbreaking, but Ezri's got a plan, and God, do I hope so succeeds.

Oh, Ezri. Reading this hurt, and God, the destruction that you've depicted here is just shattering. War is Hell. It so is. And you've done such an amazing job. I'm almost afraid to read what comes next, because this one hit so hard. Beautiful writing.

Nice speech, Ezri Dax.  Let's see what you do with it.  I cannot wait to see how this arc ends.

The opening scene with the official disbanding was so sad.  You drew the scene well.  I felt like I was watching on my own TV.

The worst of times, the very worst of times. Can only hope there is light at the end of the tunnel.

And so falls the Federation. You can't blame them for going out as they did, after all the suffering and loss. But I'm glad to see some in Starfleet are still going to fight, still going to boldly go into the future. Ezri seems to have grown up from that scared little thing we saw facing a dead Jadzia.

Now the question is how is she, and the others like her, going to fight this thing. How are they going to survive while the galaxy around them falls to their knees? I'm very interested in seeing this last piece.

Gods, a war of untold savagery where the line cannot be drawn anywhere. Dragging Ezri down and down. You're doing a fantastic job CaptainSarine.

Oh, poor Ezri. Trill bites the dust and does so in brutal fashion. She's now she's part of a dying species. I'm glad Nog was there to talk her out of the immediate, angry approach. She didn't need to throwing herself and her crew at that battlecruiser in the state she was in.

With Trill gone and so many other worlds destroyed, the question becomes what now ... how does the Federation survive this? They look to be conquered. They look to have lost. But they have to hide away.

She makes the choice to live.

And it's the only reasonable one, really. It seems as if the only symbiont alive now is Dax. Quite a legacy to keep in your belly.

This is one of the most depressing Trek stories I ever have ever read. Good read but very depressing and this is only a ficlet!

Oh, damn.  This was devastating.  Nog's right, though.  Ezri can't risk herself and Dax for simple revenge.  She's too valuable now for that ... and so, she should realize, is her crew.

I feel for her.  Ouch.

I like Ezri's ambivalence at speaking up with the voice of Dax, instead of her own. I also really like the description of them coming aboard, and how it feels, especially considering all they've been through. Her relationship with Nog is darling, too.

Starting to listen to the slug, she is.  What a strange transition that must be, to go from being one to being many.  She seems to be using it to her advantage, though.

Well, she made her decision, and seems to be suffering for it.  This is such a fascinating look back at the background of your story universe.  I mean, I knew that this was an AU where the Dominion won, but I had never really thought about what that looked like for the people we "know" who fought in it.  This look at the horror is sad, but really compelling.

Oh loving the nods and winks to canon and to Treklit (even if I haven't read them) but also love the way being paved here forwards. And I take a little heart that Dax and Ezri have someone they know from the past with them now (Nog and Vaughn). Surely there's some sort of comfort to be found in that.

And only now that you point it out do I begin to see that Ezri would have value as Dax to the future of Starfleet with her Curzon knowledge. Useful and helpful for her career and Starfleet. Though slight whiff of being used too.

Well, Ezri and Nog back aboard a Defiant class and boy, things have changed in the timeline haven't they? We have the ship named the Titan and its chief engineer Geordi Laforge ... what happened to the Enterprise I wonder? What's going to happen to Ezri and Nog?

A well painted scene, with many nods to canon and the books. Much enjoyed.

Seems the weight of command forces upon Ezri so. When it goes wrong it goes wrong by far.
