This story is the first of my series, Star Trek: Beyond. "A Taking of Leave" and several of the stories that follow were first printed in a 1980's fanzine and have since been heavily rewritten. In this story Spock takes leave from the Enterprise to participate in research on a colony planet. While there he encounters a mysterious halfling who tests his Vulcan discipline and changes his life.

In the episode And the Children Shall Lead, an alien entity attempts to take over the Enterprise by taking over the crew, mind by mind, and nobody is exempt--not even a Vulcan. When the alien gets to the bridge, Spock is as vulnerable as the rest of the crew, until the alien goes a step too far.

She freely admitted that she fell in love with him, but what did Spock feel? This is the story of that meeting.
Conceived about a year ago, but written/completed for the 'Expansion' challenge.
