You're a good writer! Really enjoyed this. I'm caught in the Windows XP phase-out, so I have a new computer waiting to be set up. Where is that Vulcan when I need him?

Love this, yes the dread tax returns and trying to find the error that you know must be there.
You handle Spock inner voice and reasoning very well, and I did like the last paragraph about the sound of a wounded animal in the corridor after Spock quickly corrects Jim’s error.
Big smile on my face here.

Oh, poor Captain, we've all been there, don't feel so bad. Of course in our cases we usually didn't have one of the smartest and most intelligent people in the known universe to point out our error and make us feel like a complete and utter fool.

Kirk needs a tax advisor. H&R Spock?

That was surprisingly poignant at the end, and before that hit an enjoyable note of humor and empathy (we've all been there!). Well balanced! Thank you!

LOL! I confess, I sometimes use this story (or a saved copy on my harddrive) to cheer me up after doing paperwork. I believe we've all heard that sound described in the penultimate paragraph. :D

Author's Response: Thanks much, I'm honored!

O, for lack of proper decimal point placement. Hilarious! :)

Author's Response: Thanks!

::giggle:: Poor Jimmy. I so empathise with him. It's okay to be good at what you do, but all of us have to file tax returns and most of us aren't good at that (I'm with the majority on this one :D).

Spock, I have to say, brother-in-arms and all, should now volunteer to do Jim's taxes every year. It would probably take him no more than two minutes anyway.

I do love the wounded dog sound. I grinned myself silly. Poor Jim.

Thanks for an amusing read.

Author's Response: Thanks for reading it! I'm surprised at how many people like this one. LOL! I guess taxes really are universal.

I adore it.
How many times we have been in a situation like that? Just a little, very little detail....that we are unable to see.
The way you made us "feel" how poor Jim Kirk felt is amazing and ejoyable. His mind will be in stand by for a while.LOL
You put a smile in my face. And for a long time.Thank you very much for this story.

Author's Response: You're very welcome! Thank you for the comment!

Cute. I like this. The idea of Kirk getting stuck trying to do his taxes is wonderfully banal, like Superman buying groceries or Darth Vader polishing his boots.

Author's Response: I have a habit of doing that a lot. ;-) Thank you!

This --

"I believe it would be in my best interest, and in the interests of the Enterprise, if I retired."

--is Art. :-D

Author's Response: Eh, it's a silly piece but if it made people smile, then that's not all too bad a reason to be silly.

A rare moment of weakness in Kirk's life!
*snicker, snicker*

OH MAN...this was funny when I read it the first time--but it's even funnier after the looooooooooong night I had tonight!  My brain just...DIED.  And I felt a lot like that at the end!

Great work...and very true to life!

Author's Response: Thanks very much! Always glad to make someone laugh.

LMAO!! I do all the bookkeeping for our small business, and have found myself in a similar situation more times than I care to admit. Frankly, part of me was hoping taxes would be 'easier' in the 23rd century.:-)Thanks, as always Steff, for adding a smile to my day.

Author's Response: ::laughs:: The main point was to get a smile or a laugh. I figure Jim can survive a little discomfort for that. Thanks for the review!

While I don't actually think a semi-communist economic system like the Federation's would actually still have income taxes, I thought this was hilarious. The difference in the times of filing between Kirk and Spock is totally a mirror of their characters, and I really can see Kirk making a decimal point error of that magnitude and not figuring it out. The man's a humanities expert, but math? Not his strong suit. :-) Very enjoyable.

Author's Response: LOL! I know that they have credits, at least so far as I've been able to tell in the TOS era (before replicators), but no clue about the income taxes really. I only know that my friend Viking was having a really miserable time of math, and since she's a big fan of Spock and a slightly less big fan of Kirk, this would make her laugh. Thanks much for the comment, Alara!
