This is a very touching story. It's calm and soothing. Just like the place that young Skrain is in--and he needs that calm and soothing very much for his tormented soul. Luckily he is not left alone with his suffering. There are people--and not only people!--who try to help and make him understand that he is not a bad person, he just made a mistake.
The "non-people" also help him find some redemption. He lets the hekant into the room and the animal makes a difference, brings something to another tormented soul. Hope.
The story touches very serious subject but ends with a light of hope. There is hope for everyone, if their only are cared for and there's someone to help and support them.
Author's Response:
Thank you very much again. :-)
He felt very, very guilty about trying to take his own life--so for something he did to help restore someone's life really meant a lot to him, and showed him what kind of person he was meant to be. In that, he learned a thing Gul Dukat never did.
