I can't believe I missed these story on the first go around. A great piece of Neelix fic, which is quite lacking. The dude gets a bad rap but he was such a fun character. I really liked his observations on the Captain and Commander (I assume he was just as heartbroken as the rest of us when Chakotay paired off with Seven, ruining J/C, lol).

Here we see Neelix acting as ship's counselor as well as morale officer, as he gives Ensign Wildman just the right support at exactly the right time.

And did he catch who I thought he just did necking in the cargo bay?  Oh, my! ;-)

Author's Response: Yep, a little J/C there, you're right. Thanks for the comments!

This is a terrific insight into the life and perspective of Neelix.  In the series Neelix and Kes' assimilation into the crew (not to mention the Maquis) seemed to happen so painlessly that it was largely ignored on screen, aside from a couple of episodes.  Here we get to see that Neelix really is quite different from the Alpha Quadrant crew members, and that despite his polite, eager-to-please outward nature, Neelix has some strong opinions on all that's occurring around him.

I'm guessing this story takes place shortly after he and Kes have joined the crew, given the strange 'newness' of the crew's behavior to Neelix.

Quite enjoyable.
