That was a great idea to write about people and share--or not--what they had to say. I'm sure the stories were full of emotions, tears, grins and everything else that makes out lives. Not only Jake had a lot of material for his book, but also all those people had an ear to talk to and throw out all that bothered them. I also think that Jake learnt something from that experience; he absorbed the stories and emotions that tagged along the words like a sponge and he never made an impression that he didn't care about those people, that they were only tools to him.
I only wish there were more examples of the stories than just these two. I'm sure they'd be interesting.
And...wasn't that a part of a Tellarite anathomy? Or a Tholian admiral? Oh, nevermind LOL

You know, I'm impressed...at first, I thought this was going to be a redux or near-copy of "Three Sides to Every Story" from the Prophecy and Change anthology by Pocket Books--it sure started the same way and then when Jake got to talking to Ziyal, I thought it was going to go down the same path...
Yet you managed to make an entirely different point and make Jake's actions a little simpler (and now that I look at it) a little more believable, as far as what he did. Jake seemed in later seasons to end up lagging behind Nog on maturity level, and it makes more sense for Jake's goals to be a bit simpler.
I also liked how you had Quark saying, "I can't in good conscience support" Jake's endeavor--given what he believes, it probably WOULD be against his conscience. Somehow I imagine he wasn't being sarcastic when he said that.
Author's Response: Thank you so much for this thoughtful review! I'm so glad you brought up "Three Sides to Every Story" - I'd read it a long time ago, and when a friend requested a story about Jake during the opening arc of the sixth season, I was worried that I'd wind up subconsciously copying some of it over. It worked out better, in the end, because I was forced to take what I remembered of that story and push mine in a different direction, take a different approach, which is always a lot of fun to do. I've always been interested in the maturity element of Jake and Nog's friendship - early on, it seems very much like Jake is the responsible, level-headed one, but he'll always ultimately go along with Nog's schemes. Later on, Nog's maturity level skyrockets, but he seems almost childish in his devotion to Starfleet, while Jake's more easygoing approach to life feels more stable, more real - Nog's setting himself up for a fall, and Jake's already on level ground. It's such an interesting dynamic. Thank you again for the review - I'm so glad you enjoyed this, and I definitely enjoyed reading your thoughts! :)
