Wonderfully written. I read your bio. Why do say that you have no imagination? I figured out she was the ship, partway through. I hope she comes to know that her love is not unrequited.

Awww...that was really quite something.  Here I was expecting a sort of "metafic," where we broke the fourth wall and a character started complaining about her author, but instead what we got is a truly tender look at the relationship between the Enterprise and Kirk.

Even though it flies in the face of your description of him, for some reason I started getting the Morgan Freeman vibe about Heinreich.  I think it's the quiet gravitas you imbued him with.

I'm wondering, have you ever read Diane Duane's book The Wounded Sky?  In a lot of ways, this feels like it would make a very natural prequel for the scene we see during the first two inversion experiences where Kirk actually becomes the ship and experiences its perspective as a sentient being.

I get the feeling your Enterprise (no bloody A, B, C, or D) would get along very nicely with my Trager from the story "Sisterhood."  And I am very glad that "she" did not suffer the fate of my Enterprise-D, to be asked truly unreasonable things and not be loved or cared about in return.  That would've been a truly sad counseling session indeed.

I can only imagine, though what my Sherouk might say--talk about a loved ship!  You know, thanks to this inspiration, I may well try to write that someday.
