This story did make me feel Caitlyn pain at the past choice that she wasn't sure was the right one and also the feeling of deciding if her marriage or true love was the path to her future.

It did rang true at as a mother try to face up to the choices that affect her son and the love for a son that cause her pain for no fault of his.

The style was simple and thus easy to read.

It did gave me a new insight into both Montgomery and Caitlyn Scott.

Powerful and evocative - and with very few words. You have a very good sense of word selection, and this piece showcases that rather neatly. The prose is spare, neat and perfectly focused. Every word counts.

When I was first learning to write, my teacher used to say, cut until you can't cut any more. Edit til it bleeds.

It'll hemorrhage if you cut any more out of it. And that is how it should be.

Excellent.

Very Steff-like. Highest praise I can give you.

Ah damn! Heartbreaking is the word trekfan. You've done a lovely job with this. The 'romance' between Jay and Caitlyn just seems to have been cursed. I've remarked often enough in your own fanfics about how well you manage to portray relationships especially mixed up and messed up ones. Once again you prove that here. Nice deft management of the affairs of the heart and relating the complicated and sad birth and passage of Scotty in his early life. Sad and tragic and yet tender.

Oh, this is just heartbreaking and real and I loved it so much.  Well done, trekfan.
