Not a great many answers here, except that we learn that the Federation did exist but does so no longer, it's demise likely connected to that of the human race.
Mr. Africa, besides having an awesome name, is quite the interesting character with an impressively unnatural lifespan.
And yet Kleg seems to be the one holding all the aces here. You known you're in trouble when a Ferengi suggests reviving the Federation.
Curious to see where this goes next.

Very curious beginning, clearly set in a time and place where man has become an endangered species. And from what we learn from the protagonist, it seems humans were to blame for it. Hardly surprising, I guess.
But what happened to Starfleet and the Federation, I wonder. For answers, I guess I've got to keep reading.

Oh very interesting. It seems to be in the style of grit and frontier world action. Very well conveyed scene of the bustling market place with a few intriguing lines dropped in that demand further exposition and exploration. The Great Burn Off for one, the hint at the Destroyer to return - madman or prophet?, the age of our protagonist alluded to. Hmmm ... a smell a potent story with quite a bit of mystery and potentially offering some great action. Liked the style/feel of this piece. Hope those copius notes translate into a fleshed out story.
