Ah I see where you wne twith this one. I was expecting some expansion on the Voyager maquis crew, which would have been interesting to read by all means but the tone and message of it would have been a lot more sombre. Whereas the perspective you told it from allowed for a positive message - literally - to be told: 'Chakotay is alive'. I dare say it was a powerful and important and inspiring message for the few remnants of the Maquis at the time. And possibly somehting that was never followed up on is what Chakotay's role with the Maquis as a figurehead might mean and what might come of it. Very good.

Author's Response: I always thought that, as the war got more desperate, Starfleet would find the surviving Maquis not in for cold-blooded murder or like crimes (as opposed to self-defense and accidental deaths while pursued) and just give them some clunker ships to do their wizardry on--maybe staffing it too with SF regular volunteers and misfits. If anyone wants that idea, you're welcome to it. I am committed to Ancient Destroyer. Glad you enjoyed it, and appreciated its premise.

This should be more. I'd say more but you didn't.

Author's Response: Thank You. I didn't have much more, beyond the reversal of the hopeless anger felt by Torres and Chakotay when they learned of the slaughter.
