By heck you are a prolific writer, and in so many varied genres and eras of Trek. I'm amazed at how you do it and the fact that each story has its own 'voice' to which it is consistent and true. This story was a neat exploration of different ideas but apart from the Seska thing, what struck me most strongly was Winn Adami. She always struck me as a cold, calculating and pragmatic woman but that was chilling and I can vividly picture her stood over and almost pronouncing judgement.
Author's Response: I once wrote a piece--too involved in another continuity to post here--wherein Winn got into a public debate with MASH's Father Mulcahy. I felt like I had to refute the existence of one of TV's worst clerics with one of its best. For DS9 itself, we had Kira's quiet faith, a triumph of humble belief over smug certainty. I'd almost go so far as to say Dukat had a better chance at possible - if unlikely - redemption than she did. Many thanks for your kind words.

Ahh, very interesting, that Seska was indeed Iliana Ghemor. Not a bad theory at all! (Man...the way she talks about Tekeny is just UNBELIEVABLY CHILLING, and indeed fitting with the theory of Iliana as Seska.)
And I also think that Winn's behavior is very fitting to what we later find out about her character. Coldly presiding over execution (yet refusing to look at it) and condemning people's immortal souls is exactly the thing that I could see her doing. I don't know if Bajoran beliefs are like Christian ones in this respect, but for her to actually condemn a soul as though she knows 100% what will happen strikes me as VERY wrong. You can condemn an act, punish an act, but what goes on between a person and deity is not something you will ever be privy to.
Author's Response: Thanks. I may yet have plans for our double-agent. As to the rest, I can only hear Winn's pedantic voice : "Well, Child--it's not something *you* will ever be privy to. I, on the other hand....". You're a mean one, Mistress Kai--you really are a heel. Someday, I can not and will not promise if or when- I may just tell my story of what happens when Kira returns Tekeny's body for reburial on Cardassia Prime.
