Very interesting take on the politics of the Nero-altered 23rd century.  I am curious to know the nature of the Cardassian Union in your timeline: is it as authoritarian as the canon version or is it different?  I was quite surprised to see you say that they rescued and returned the pods in a benevolent manner!

Also, so great to see Pike happy and healthy!  I remember when he got captured, leaning over to my mom in the theater and saying, "Oh, this will NOT be good."  This was after seeing the really gruesome demise of some other redshirts and Vulcans.  Boy was I relieved to see him at the commendation ceremony!

I think overall this is a great reflection on the alterations in the timeline, although much more optimistic than my own ("Cardassian Sunrise"). ;-)

Author's Response: My 'take' has always been that, while leaning authortarian, the CU was leaning towards Democratic reform, but also running out of resources. They had perhaps hoped that merely having favorable to them trade with Bajor might do the trick, but the OO pushed events towards a takeover. We still see traces of the old ways on DS9, as when Dukat firmly objects to the OO having its own fleet. A truly bone-deep dictatorship would have long past accepted its Stasi/Securitat/KGB having such a thing. In 'Telling', I even offer a speculation on the UFP's past role in all this, and why Bajor specifically felt abandoned. But in this AU, FC with that sector seems to have come early, and trade means the ability to avoid militirization. You can bet that Spock-Prime will do what he can to nudge events that way.

Not perfect-but very well done, well thought out, in terms of what Our Spock must deal with. Well done, well done, indeed-I haven't even asked the questions and you have come up with some highgly creative answers.

Author's Response: Many thanks. This one got a much better response on the various forums I posted to than I would have thought.
