Kalara handled that well, all things considered. Unfortunately, the whole loss-of-command issue is taking its toll on her relationship with her husband.

No doubt it will be sheer agony for her to watch Ba'el command the crew she assembled, seated in what should have been her chair, but as she's already noted, she's a Starfleet officer and she must bear that burden if she wants to remain in uniform.

And it appears she'll get the chance to test Redemption's tactical systems prior to the captain's arrival.

Oh my goodness! Well, Ba'el's certainly not afraid to stick his thumb in the eye of SI. He's pissed the 'ambassador' of royally, though it was well deserved. At least now he knows he'll have one agency gunning for him on this assignment. However, Ba'el doesn't strike me as a man who fails to watch his own back with a second set of eyes.

Continued excellence!

I've been looking forward to this conversation since we first met Kalara, and I wondered how Qwert would break the news and still remain breathing. It appears he had to have another Klingon in the room to do it.

The exchange was handled flawlessly, and I especially like the concept of Starv'a'kai, something of a new Bushido code for the Klingons trying to regain their birthright. It gives both Kalara and Kovoth a whole new layer of depth.

I've no doubt Kalara will prove as formidable an XO (if not more so) than she would have as Redemption's captain. You're setting the stage for quite the dynamic captain/XO relationship.

Again, well drawn characters against a very complex and utterly fascinating background. Kudos!

Ah, so even the newly reconstituted Starfleet Intelligence likes to throw the odd monkey-wrench into what should be an otherwise straightforward diplomatic and exploration mission.

Zoraya can obviously handle herself in a bad situation, that's a decided advantage. Now, whether or not she'll be ordered to forcibly vacate the occupant of Redemption's command chair... well... I guess we'll just have to see.

As always, a wonderful chapter and a well drawn introduction to a new character.

Tremendous chapter. I'm already attached to both of these characters, and I've only just met them.

It sounds as though Haebron was not only subjected to some horrific trauma, but he may have inflicted it on others as well. The scene between Dax and Williams in the turbolift was excruciatingly awkward, and I can only imagine how a real sit-down conversation between these two might go.

As for Ianto, he's charming in an unconventionally android sort of way, and he's clearly no mere copy of his 'father.' Oh, and I love the name... any Captain Harkness' in the new Starfleet?

A prospective captain fighting the demons and ghosts of his past as others seek to manipulate his future for their own ends.  Not an easy place in the cosmos to occupy.

The post-Dominion occupation galaxy you're painting here is a vivid one, and is in stark contrast to the stellar-political landscape we've come to know.  How a quarter millennia of Dominion rule has effected the various species under their boot heels will be a treat for the readers to discover.

Again, wonderful stuff and I'm eagerly anticipating more.

And pulling the command carpet out from under a new captain is bad enough... but doing that to a Klingon? That's courting suicide!

An intriguing plot, fascinating characters, and lots of promise.

Interesting beginning!  You've got a post-Dominion occupied Alpha Quadrant and a mysterious man trying to make a quiet life for himself on Earth with Starfleet trying to (or so it sounds) pull him back into the fold.

I'm looking forward to more.

I've been following this on TrekBBS and I love it so much!  I can't wait to find out what happens next in this upside-down galaxy you've created.
