How uncharacteristically generous of Q to allow one of the scientists to survive and serve as a warning to others. Of course, he was snide and sarcastic and generally off-putting in the process, but as a pseudo-god that's well within his purview.

You owe me a new keyboard! And another beer! I started laughing so hard reading that that beer came out my nose. Although, it didn't sound like the "Q" of TNG, I loved his 'you stupid mortals' approach and "I had some Omega Particles for breakfast, with cream and sugar" line.
Comedy gold, and thanks for cheering up a rather bad day with that. I guess some civilization out there had a worse day then I did.
