Awesome insights into her first day aboard. The feverent glance at the big chair and the itch to try it out is amusing and warming. As is her desire to sit in the chair at conn. Loved the jealousy line she had about her helm officer.

I also liked the remark about some ships changing because of the captain - none other than Sutek himself being her thought on that one. Speaking of which, we hear his Mom has taken an interest in Sydney too!!! Crikey! Sydney must have made an impression on Sutek! Hope we get to disocver more about their meeting at some point.

Likewise, more to the background concerning Regina! Ha! What lies behind that and how is Sydney going to handle it? Again, you leave us wanting to know more. Great stuff.

Author's Response: That first time T'Lasa met her, it was mostly because she was curious about this Human who was proving to be perplexing to her son. He was successful with the two other Humans he had mentored, what's up with this one? ;)

Very well written view of the "first day on the job" jitters. I can picture her dictating her log with an almost nervous babble. Good story.

I like!  I like!

Very interesting to hear about the relationship that she has with Madame T'Lasa!  I must say, even by "hearsay" your Vulcans are quite interesting.  It's not surprising that the woman that raised Sutek would also be quite tolerant of other species and their ways, to the point of inviting one to her home and actually showing an interest and wanting to find out about her.  Never mind that however restrained Satterwhite was being at the time, you'd still hear emotion in her descriptions or see it in her demeanor somehow...I think that really is cool. :-)

Also, just curious...have you got anywhere that shows where she learned Vulcan mind disciplines?  Obviously she's still very human, but it would be interesting to see how a human integrates that sort of philosophy into her own ways.

I love her reaction to the ship, too...I totally disagree with those who can't stand the look of the Sovereign class--I think they're sleek, gorgeous, powerful ships, and it's nice to see one described in these sorts of terms. :-)

I'm kinda hoping she finds a way to sort it out with Regina, though.  From this, I can't exactly tell who started it or who's refusing to let go: one or both?

Ohhh, and I am SO happy to see I guessed the part of the country the Satterwhites are from correctly!  I'd been picturing Alabama--but that's only
because I lived in Alabama for awhile and haven't had as much experience with Georgia. ;-)

Author's Response: Sydney learned her mental discipline techniques from Sutek (as well as the Vulcan language). That was for getting a grip on her anger issues. I once had it as a running joke that what she learned cut her off from her deep vocabulary of invectives, and all she could get out when she wanted to curse was "dang" or "damn".

She's quite interested in ships, or course, once being a pilot. She really likes the Sovereign class, and expressed her (light-hearted) jealousy when she heard Picard was getting a Sovereign-class Enterprise.

The Regina thing will kind of get sorted out in the next story.

The Satterwhites (and the Broadhursts) have ancestors that were from Georgia and South Carolina. I might formally write down the history some day.
