Oh, loved this. Loved the look at all the players, and loved the authentic-feeling peek into McCoy's psyche. Really well done.
Author's Response: Thank you! McCoy is my second-favorite TOS character, and I'm glad to know he sounded right.

Of all the characters to take and reflect upon the others and the parting of ways and last hurrahs, I think it was the best and most beautiful choice to choose McCoy. Maybe it's the puppydang craggy face, that Southern ageing voice, the sad but sparkling eyes, but he is just the best vehicle to use for it. The fact that you reveal his reflections so well, so truthfully and so tenderly means to say you do it more than justice. It is a lovingly rendered piece. Something honest strikes home about it. It also isn't too final but in many ways it really is the end. What particularly haunts is the image of Scotty working away endeavouring to repair the ship and make it worthy again before it reached Spacedock, maybe in some vain hope that they would get some sort of reprieve. All for naught seemingly. Sad. So very sad and tender. Beaitufully done as always Steff.
Author's Response: Thanks, Kev. <3 This was a prompt piece, and I don't know if it's one of my stronger ones, but I'm glad that it rang true and right for you.

This is a brief yet powerful story. The things that flash through your mind in a few brief seconds as you consider past, present, and future. What do you do when you've reached the sunset of a life so full of adventure, friendship, love and tragedy? All these people still possess increadible knowledge and experience, skills that other officers would kill for. Nevertheless, as they arrive at the 'end of the road' for many of their careers, there is the melancholy of those who have sacrificed the possibility of family for a life of exploration among the stars.
In short... I liked it, very much. ;)
Author's Response: Out of all of the crews, you firmly get the impression that the original series crew got the worst of it; that they didn't get their just rewards. Thanks, Sam.

Man...I feel bad for these guys, the way you describe it. Sadly, it seems that as far as we know, only Sulu ever had a family to give him another place to orient himself besides the Enterprise.
It almost makes you think there's a downside to a crew staying together for THAT long. :-(
Author's Response: I'd venture there is. Canon leaves no true outs for the TOS crew; we know Kirk dies in Generations. We know Spock spends his time trying to reunify a planet that goes to Hell in Nemesis. We know McCoy makes it to 147. And, of course, we know Scotty had to deal with losing 75 years and then being treated... well, like a nuisance. I hope that Sulu, Uhura and Chekov stayed close. They'd be the only ones who had a chance to build a good ending.

Sad :(
They should be frozen in time at their best. Thank god for DVDs and books and the ability for us to revisit them in their heydey.
Not that that does them any good.
There are a whole bunch of fics that could sprout out of this one. I've seen a lot of last hurrah fics and novels set after ST VI, but none of them have faced retirement like this. This is truer than all of them.
Thanks for a good read, sad though it was.
Nutty
(who hasn't been around much lately)
Author's Response: Thank you very much, Nutty. ::hugs::

A sad little bit. McCoy, facing his age and the end of an era. Nice.
Author's Response: Thank you!

::sigh:: Loved every word. I can't possibly imagine that anyone would have told you this before, but you're very good at it, you know? ;)
Author's Response: Thank you. LOL! I owe Viking this one; it was the prompt trade I did with her.
