This was great, as usual, Mistral. I must plead ignorance about Worf's upbringing (don't know the specifics of many of the TNG characters), but I do think the duality worked here - in spades.
I like that even though he was raised by humans, in a human environment, he is still inherently Klingon. I absolutely loved the solution to the Kobayashi Maru - every bit as unique and gifted as what Kirk did, and there was no cheating involved. ;-) Great little piece.

Aw man, with good reason to be proud Sergey. This was a really neat little ficlet exploring some of Worf's youth and the difficult passage it must surely have been. There is surely a ton of moments to be touched upon and explored in such an attempt. You zoned in on a few but it remains effective and tonally I was was not sure about the purpose or narrative but the ending shows that it was about Worf finding that balance between his human upbringing and his Klingon heritage.
I love this aspect of Worf and all too often it is glossed over or played up in a warrior ape manner by fanfic and even canon. But Worf has that duality of character that made Spock so fascinating a character - you likewise here achieve the very same effect of making Worf a fully intriguing character.
It was also a very effective piece to fulfill the challenge as we do indeed get a unique alien perspective and a light on some of the more human aspects of the Federation life through Worf.
Interesting too that the challenges faced are not Worf's alone - from his parents trying to devise a means to bottle feeding him to his school coach trying to coach him in football others too are having to find a way to accomodate Worf's Klingon heritage.
The Kobyashi Maru test especially was terrific to read as we got very individual Klingon approaches to the test scenario. Well done.

Big, big smile at the ending here. Oh, I loved this! Worf's solutions are extremely, well, Worf-like. Worfesque. Worfish. You get the idea.
He has an important test and of course he thinks like a Klingon in order to pass it. And it also points up what is, perhaps, a bit of prejudice in the testing. After all, the Federation is at peace with the Klingon Empire. So why are they the bad guys, still, in the Kobayashi Maru simulation? Shouldn't the Federation get hip with the times, and change the enemy in the simulation to the Romulans, the Borg, the Breen, the Dominion, er, somebody else?
I also loved Rozhenko's eagerness and desire to help, and his ability to embrace, literally and figuratively, a very different son. Kudos!

This is such an utter delight! Oh my God, how hadn't I seen this before? Young Worf is oddly adorable, if spiny, and I absolutely laughed out loud at several points in his development. Somehow, him playing football is so utterly... perfect. It just fits. And then his solution to the Kobayashi Maru, which is sheer, unfettered genius, if you ask me. Really, it's awesome.

Interest story, did like Wolf three attempts at Kobyashi Maru test.
The whole story felt right for the character, like all the minor scenes from his childhood.

I LOVE Worf's reaction to the Kobayashi Maru--and especially the fact that the computer actually had to concede to his solution!
Just one question, though (and this is what kinda gave me a bit of difficulty with some parts of the story)...if Worf was found as a baby, how is it he became so culturally Klingon given that he was raised in a human environment? How does he manage to be so confused by humanity when he's surrounded by it? That's a question I think would be worth exploring...
Author's Response: I've always felt that Worf's human parents raised him by any and all Klingon cultural guidelines they could find out about. That was my impression from TNG, anyway. You're right-there's something to be farmed in that idea, though. Maybe he went to Klingon summer camp? :)
