I'm reading your Star Trek Chronicles series and I decided I would start with this story to get as much backstory as I could.

For one thing you have a knack for writing about children, Hank and Bethany's dialogue was spot on and it sounded like that of their age group, which can be a tricky task to do writing dialogue for child characters.

Right now Bethany seems to be the more interesting character and in that second scene I kind of groaned when Bethany got her hopes up. The poor girl, though it makes me wonder why her parents ever married, and I know Beth's mother is Andorian and they have fiery tempers and are very strong-minded, so perhaps it was a bad match to begin with?

A great start to the series and if your main characters are engaging when they are teenagers, I look forward with anticipation to seeing how engaging they will be adults!

Good stuff! I take it Bethany's mother is either Andorian or Bolian? You got the dialogue all right, teenager/teenager talk and arguing wife/husband (bitching about trivial things), and it all flowed.

Again good stuff, you got me hooked after like a hundred words so nice one. I'll be writing more reviews for your Star Trek: Chronicles series.

Ouch. Not a happy moment. This story got me thinking about how often in families like this parents and children exchange their roles, with children becoming more reasonable and sensible than parents. It's sad, but it happens.

Cool writing, tf! And I can just see Hank being told he's weird... Guess he'd better get used to it. :D

A touching, wince-worthy look at Bethany's early days. Been there, done that, feel the sympathy. Excellent work, TF.

Author's Response:

*bows* Thank you. Only seemed right to write this, as I referenced this in Book 2 ch. 3.

That was a sad tale.  It would seem some truths still hold true into the 24th century.  Some people are just never going to get along, and it's the children that end up paying the price.

Very poignant.

Author's Response:

Much thanks. Yes, Bethany's experiences would determine a number of things later for her.
