I do hope that Arik will not end his life before I have a chance to know him ;)

A good story. I really enjoyed it.

Now, off to Book II :D

So, Tasha has some descendant after all. In spite of what Data claims, he has "feelings" and he seems to be sentimental. And faithful to his friends. He experiences those things differently, but they make him more human than he thinks.

A very touching moment :)

Zombie Borg!

That's why they started to kill--they cannot assimilate any longer.

At first I wondered if the data banks weren't empty because the Borg tried to clean them to prevent the infection that changed them into zombie. Maybe it was the last, desperate act of preservation and stopping a virus. If it was a virus, but since the Borg don't understand anything unless assimilated, then they wouldn't know what's going on.

But with the Romulans on the horizon--it could be that their claim about having a weapon to fight the Borg is not a lie after all.

"Commander Goran, U.S.S. Hermes."

"I suppose that means you run fast," Quentin mumbled under his breath.

Ahahaha! I love Quentin, I really do :D

Awwww, what a touching picture of Arvon's family. It must be awfully hard on him not to know how they are doing. Cardassians are defined by their families and he seems to care so much about his. I hope he's going to see them some day again.

And I agree with his assessment of 'time healing wounds' saying. It doesn't always work and certainly not for a Cardassian with eidetic memory, who forgets nothing.

I like Quentin more and more. His question about "fearing girls" just cracked me up :D

He seems to be very disillusioned and pragmatic, though.

And finally we know who sent the signal.

Yay, again! Will/Tom Riker on the horizon. With the "original" lost, this is going to get interesting.

But 24 years alone... Do your Cardassians have counselors on their ships? He sure needs one now.

I like that snippets from the past are presented when we already know the characters a little. That were we don't get overwhelmed with lots and lots of information that is hard to remember. The look in the past adds to the characters, instead of blurring the picture.

A very good approach.

Yay, Data is alive! And--yay!--a Cardassian Galor. I already like the gul :D

I think I've seen somewhere some spoiler because I think Data succeeded in his project of constructing another "child." Yay, too!

I thought that her "pet" was a Medusan. That's an interesting race, shame they weren't used more in the show. I can't help but wonder what they look like...apart from the fact that they are ugly ;)

The crew seems to be interesting. More and more unique individuals.

Seems like the things that are going to happen are exactly what Captain Horatio Sanders feared: the next generation--his son--has to clean the mess that had been left by their fathers.

Chelkan doesn't seem like someone who holds grudges ;)

BTW, is the name Horatio Sanders a coincidence, or you really took it from CSI characters from Miami and Las Vegas?

Author's Response:

It's actually a coincidence, I hadn't given that CSI connection any thought at all. Thanks for the review, much appreciated.

Oh, my. The things went from bad to worse. And now...it's time to do something about it.

An interesting premise here. So many things can happen now, so many questions about the future could be asked.

Crikey what an ending. It seems that the dependable Data is able to pull quite a few more surprises on us. I am totally flabbergasted that he could go to all that effort to create Arik only to sacrifice his life in a greater cause and all with intent. That is actually scary and quite cold. But fascinating.

Tasha always seemed to resonate with Data and I like the nod back to their relationship. And now you give us more Worf and Will. Goody. And of course, don't think I didn't notice the change of topic! ou hook us in with the Romulans and then switch to another plot. Very devious.

The interesting twist in the previous chapter holds up to the explanation as events take on a new life. A massive Romulan force and a plan to rid the Borg and control their cubes too! It may mean a formidable force can now go against the Borg but only if they manage to work together. Can they do so? Hmm... you like to play big. An dit certainly works for creating an exciting story.

Maybe with the last lines, Alex might begin to understand the greater burden of command. The situation has turned on its head and the Borg apparently vulnreable - but does that mean all Borg are vulnerable? Or does it mean the Romulans are a threat now too? A very interesting development. Very!

Crikey the Borg showing up on their doorstep is a stark and dire development that is puzzling in their ability to do so. As for the Admiral and her plan - it strikes me as the wise thing to do but gosh in this instance I'd smack Alex in the mouth. He keeps shouting off and acting as if he knows better and then he volunteers for the mission he decried. He actually is beginning to grate on my nerves and he confuses and muddles matter needlessly - as a character in the mix of events that sorely do not need his contention - and as a reader as his swings and changing stances make it hard to follow the rapid developments. Still exciting stuff. And now an away mission fraught with danger and a ticking clock to boot.

Again, Novos and Ilara continue to intrigue with their strange relationship. His warnings also might prove to be prophetic as well as being stark and pessimistic. And it only strikes me now that maybe he has either inside knowledge or perhaps because I'm suspicious of these things, that he has his own agenda ...

I do wonder what Alex hopes to achieve with going to Ilara and waht sway she might have.

Another interesting dynamic continues to be Quentin and Alex as Quentin is a reluctant mentor. He rather has his own vested interests in punishing the Borg but at the smae time high-tailing it if circumstances change. It makes him a flawed character very much but one the audience still wants to root for. As for Alex he continues to view things through rose-tinted glasses and has some idealistic concept of Starfleet. Starfleet as it no longer exists but from before the Borg Onslaught.

Wow. Data's son Arik is 'born' and we are seeing the creation essentially not of a new life but essentially/possibly of a new senitent species really, as this could be the first of many. It strikes me that you return to the concept of Data and his progeny in this story and in the Multiverse Round Robin. It is obviously a concept that intrigues you and the fascination carries through to the reader as you place an import on this develpoment in the chapter and in the larger story too. It is also worth pointing out a great plot idea and I'm intrigued as to what the wider and larger ramifications are going to be.

Then when we return to the Starbase personnel itself, yet another facet of your story telling screams out at me. You always strive to include some personal reflection of the characters and in particular appear to like the inclusion of a couple with a relationship that should be happening but always seems a long way off. Brian and Natalie's relationship is indeed complicated by their positions and the larger mission. So it is a realistic hurdle stopping the pair. But I love the fact that you take the time out to spend moments on this kind of character interaction/relationships and development. Many would shy away from it. You don't!

And then the littel tdbits about the Saurian race. Just little details but it fleshes out the world and the character of Chelkan whose towering height is gradually being matched by his tomwering personality as he seems able to get Quentin to tow the line [somewhat].

Lastly, we have the twist of the Romulans and the mission to seek them out and discover whatever the weapon it is they have discovered. I wonder whether this means some intrepid crew will need to be assembled to pursue this cause. I wonder...

I like that you have different tensions among the parties even thought they are united int their cause. It ratches up the drama on an emotional level as the crew duke it out in philisophical choices about what to do. Engaging and a little confusing too after taking so long to return to this story. Sorry it has been a while.

Awww, I'd SO like to hope this treatment could help Jorac--AND that Jorac will have some sort of memory of his brother's love and kindness to give him a reason to keep his life once he regains it!

And you really captured the shock that Will/Thomas would be experiencing to be recovered and find the Federation in this state!
