Once again, another fascinating look at Q society. What would appear to be a very cut and dried issue turns into so much more depending on what perspective is brought to bear. I particularly liked Janeway's take on the subject, and the fact that QJr still turns to her for guidance.

Wow...I should've been looking for it, but I completely didn't expect the fact that Q was projecting his OWN issues onto Junior and that the perceptions he was encouraging Junior to have would be that badly off.
I like that because I think it keeps this story from seeming heavy-handed in any way even though I do think it gives very thoughtful consideration to a real issue (gender identity in society) and I was certainly liking it for that aspect, too.
Just curious about the Q that gave Junior his litte pep-talk: is he some sort of nature-artist, the way Q is a trickster and the female Q is a wargamer?
Oh...and I have to say, as I read that final description at the end of what Q and son were planning to do to the Kadystans--MAN, I am so glad your Q aren't able to mess with my Cardassians. I love my Cardassians to bits--but especially in light of the stuff in my latest essay, I can see where your Q and Son would try and have a field day...

This is a very interesting take on the issues transgendered people often face in society. In a lot of ways, I'm reminded of TNG's episode "The Outcast," for its take on gender and sexuality issues.
I also very much appreciated the nod to The Wounded Sky, which is still to this day my very favorite Star Trek novel (and one I firmly believe would've been up for a Hugo if it weren't "a TV tie-in").
Definitely looking forward to see how (or if) this resolves in the next part...
