Even now, Sarek has withheld the full truth from Amanda. It is not only in "the distant past" that Vulcans killed to win a mate.

How fortunate Amanda is to share these precious memories. Clearly there was deep love between those two.

What a scare. Sarek has some interesting friends.

Logic and emotion must unite. And Amanda will be that bridge. I have been wondering if Sarek's first marriage has already been dissolved. He definitely has his eyes, his hands, and his mind on her.

That touch of Sarek's definitely added the "wow" factor.

Sarek's gaze settled upon Amanda as he spoke of the various reasons for ancient Vulcans conflicts. An unspoken phrase sprang to my mind: "...and they also fought over women. (And at times still do.)"

Have I begun to pick up his thoughts?

Things are definitely looking up for Amanda. I am heartened by Sarek's show of consideration. A lovely garden and human companions! And I cannot help but share her fascination for this strange but beautiful world.

You have a great knack for setting alien moods. Are you part Vulcan?

I enjoyed this trek up to Sarek's lofty getaway. I'm wondering if Amanda wanted to ask Mike, "Was Sarek there at the purification ceremony? Did you see him?" She certainly did---quite a bit of him, in fact.

Was Sarek really there? Or just a figment of her peculiar trance state? Why would he be standing there buck naked in the smoke-haze? Whew, I'm glad she'll be getting dressed and back to business.

Outrageous. Exploring her thoughts without permission, and that humiliating physical. And this is only the first step? More power to her. I would have smacked someone by now!

A ritualistic cleansing. I was expecting some sort of biological decontamination.

Oh yes, these humans are definitely on display. I wonder of any of the Vulcans saw Amanda's tongue sticking out? What a scandal!!!! And of course I'm wondering why Sarek chose her out of everyone on Earth?

Oh my gosh. Amanda, you really must get a grip. I see this is going to get complicated.

Sarek "unsure"? Now there's a pleasing thought. And to call Amanda's longing for his mental presence a "growing addiction" with the same emotional impact as a sexual encounter. Well said. I have used this same idea in my own series to explain a Vulcan ban against mental contact between a parent and child of the opposite sex.

Gazing into Amanda's eyes, he admits to appreciating beauty. Just as I suspected.

Yes! Now the learning will go in both directions. I'm so glad that Amanda is being honest with him. And I find it interesting that Sarek's previous mind-touch did not only impart Vulcan language skills, but also some of his actual memories. Was that spillover intentional? Or was he so taken by her that his control slipped?

Author's Response: Thank you for another insightful review. You do seem to ask the right questions. :)

So that beverage is "medicinal", with the properties of a drug? He might have explained the whole process before their tea party, and given her the choice whether or not to imbibe.

That was some mind-touch. The "kiss of his hand", indeed. Enveloped in a heady cloud of cinnamon, she surrendered to the intimate contact. What a pleasant way to learn a language! Where do I sign up?

I'm so glad that Amanda managed to toss out that comment about a Vulcan lack of politeness. At least Sarek finally lowered the room's temperature, but only after scorching her insides with a beverage inappropriate for humans. As for mentioning her full bladder, wow. Was that ever a faux pas. Maybe Amanda should teach him a little French.

Author's Response: LOL!

Sarek's behavior toward young Amanda is intolerably rude. As a host, he should have lowered the room's temperature for her comfort, and he certainly should not keep her waiting. Is this really a future diplomat?

I am so stuck on the word "eager" in regard to Sarek. Perhaps he is eager to instruct Amanda, but when she arrives, he treats her with marked indifference. Some sort of "howdy" would be nice. I sincerely hope that young Amanda will begin instructing him on human niceties.

The clothes Sarek provided seem very beautiful. She should have know that a mini-skirt would not be appropriate. I can see that there's going to be some learning on both sides.

I'm been slowly reading this delightful story. How very intimidating young Sarek seems to Amanda. Yes, he definitely doesn't pull any punches. He would do well to learn more of human customs, especially manners when speaking to a lady. Cultural understanding   goes both ways, and I suspect that he might soon be learning that.

A lovely beginning. The mood you have set is truly magical. I swear I was with young Amanda, peering out that car window at the new Vulcan Embassy. I understand her surprise at the imposing sight of Sarek, but can only wonder at his "shock" when he met her girlish gaze.

WHOA!!!!!!

I can't believe it's over!  That was absolutely an AMAZING story!

I wish I could say more right now--I just got back from a con and I'm dog tired, but I really wanted to let you know that I finished reading and I really appreciate the depth and thought you put into it. :-)

Author's Response: No worries. I finished it on Saturday - and wanted you to be one of the first to read it. Hope you enjoyed your con. I remember the days of frantic days and little sleep...! :)

So Sarek sees himself as part of the legend just as Amanda does!  How, then, will he explain why he married someone else, and get himself out of that relationship?  T'Pau does seem to know, which could be helpful--but I have to think that would be a very tough pill to swallow.

I SO can't wait to see what happens!
