Hee hee. I like the idea of a spacetime boomer being new to experiencing weather. It makes terrific sense - especially the way the boomer views the patio doors as a viewport and its being open a hull breach. Hee hee. I guess once a space boomer you would see the environment around you in terms of ship parts and functions. Good stuff.

nice little bit-I'd like to see where you might go with this....

Author's Response: Ack! I've created a monster! :-) I guess I should round out the rest of the ship at some point.

Very nice...that's something I've always wondered about--what the cultural and psychological effects would be of being raised shipside and not ever dealing with a planetary environment.

Author's Response: This sort of thing is a mental exercise I've done for as long as I can remember: How would someone from X react to Y, where Y is a fairly mundane thing in our world. Unfortunately, for most of history the answer would have been to freak out, grab a sword, and start laying about with it, or to start piling kindling around a stake. :-p Thankfully, the future provides a few more options...

I really liked this one... especially the mention of a Vulcan chief engineer. Hehe.

And that thunderstorm definitely must be something!

Author's Response: Yes, but did you get the reference in the Vulcan's name. As for the storm, we had some big ones rumble through last week which inspired me to dust this off.

A short, sweet little tale. I liked the interactions and the sense of... worried wonder? I guess you could call it that Thuy displays at the thunderstorm. It's a bit short, but it stands alone as a neat glimpse into the lives of the characters.

Author's Response: Well, I figured I'd start with something short and simple to get back into the whole writing thing.

I'm a huge fan of using NCOs more prominently in Trek.  One thing I really disliked about the on-screen portrayal of this organizaiton is that they would have you believe that officers roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty when nothing could be further from the truth.  I'm guessing it was simplified for the purposes of storytelling.

Anyway, I like the character interaction you have here so far, even though it might be considered a little too casual (even for enlisted folk), but it's got a good atmosphere to it where it doesn't bother me at all.  I'd like to see more.

Author's Response: I know the real-world armed forces frown on this sort of hookup, but Starfleet has been shown to have been fairly tolerant of it all the way back to the TOS episode which introduced the Romulans. ("Balance Of Terror", if memory serves...) The USS Morningstar was originally a ship assigned to Section 31 in a chat-based sim I used to play in. The first clue that she wasn't a normal Starfleet vessel was her name in conjunction with her dedication quote of "Non Serviam!" ;-) Clearly this isn't that version, though she'll still be a Broadsword class ship.
