I'm not sure what happened to whom, but if Nechayev's involved it can't be comfortable for those in her sights (presumably Picard here).
I like your use of Madden, whose footage from Nemesis ended up on the cutting room floor. The idea of a non-Enterprise regular having to learn the ropes of being Picard's Number One and fitting in with as tightly knit a crew always seemed fertile ground for fanfic.
Short but sweet. Nicely done!
Author's Response:
Nice catch on Madden. My Star Trek HQ Enterprise bridge crew may or may not be a likely post-Nemesis combination of characters but - one thing's for sure - eventually even the great flagship Enterprise will have bridge officers will not fully measure up to the incomparable TNG crew. People have flaws, flaws that can run unfathomably deep, and even more optimistic than living in a quasi-utopian society is discovering that, over time, these characters can learn to turn their flaws into pearls.
You might remember Reg Barclay from Hollow Pursuits, the Enterprise warp engines out of control, as he gathered in Engineering with Geordie and a group of other engineers in a last ditch effort to save the ship. It was finally when Reg said, “What if it’s one of us?” that led them to the true source of the problem. There’s a poetic beauty in that, and how the crew owes their lives, at least in part, to one man’s social phobia.
Though a maudlin truism it may be, problems are indeed opportunities and it is ultimately those problems, or flaws, that produce the tapestry that is knit between all of us.
Many Thanks, Sam

I don´t know from what this come, or where is going, but I am hooked. It seems I´ll have to read your work. Shameless self-promotion is working. :::grins::

Author's Response:
Your kind words have earned you the highly secret Surgeon General's warning: reading Pengraff's work is known to cause severe keyboard-phobia lasting for days afterwards, hampering one's tendency to write reviews. The only cure is abdominal breathing while reading Desiderata.
Just read the summaries, that's all I did. :-D
Sammy.
(I'm probably wrong)

OK-what the heck is Barclay up to?
That question needs answering. Good bit, though.
Author's Response:
I know it will feel like cruel and unusual punishment, but I'm going to stick to my guns (a nice matching pair of pearl-handled Varon-T disruptors they are, too!).
But, just to show that I am not completely without mercy, the trail of breadcrumbs begins in Episode 1, Act 2, Scene 2 of Star Trek HQ. The thread is picked up again in E3, A1, S4 but, oh dear, I haven't posted that episode yet! Well, no problem, it's just a matter of dictation... (I saw Dixon Hill today, and he was sniffing around E1A1S3)
Shameless self-promotion? Brutal cliffhanger? But of course. Once you're returned from muse-space these things no longer matter a hoot to an annoying writer at large. ;-)

I can see that you have a great turn of phrase all of your own :D I liked Picard in this. He is showing a stubborn streak he doesn't often display, but is an integral part of his character.
Thanks for writing and sharing.
Nutty
(new here and getting to know you guys)
Author's Response:
It's always nice to receive kind words from an interesting writer like yourself !
Sam
(and there's nothing nutty about you! :D )

Oh just what did Barcley do now in the holodeck? Short and sweet and it used the line perfectly. I thought after the first few lines it was Madden arguing against Picard going on an away mission. This is more fun and intriguing though.
Author's Response:
Thanks Miranda, I'm glad you liked it!
Without spoiling too much I'll say that Barclay has made some troubling decisions, but they prove to be the right ones. Follow the EM receiver...

Nice use of the prompt! I think I'll have to catch up on your story to really understand what was going on, but the scene itself is pretty easily visualized.
Author's Response: Thanks Steff!
