What the hell was that thing? Jesus, you write very visceral stuff. I'm almost afraid to start January McKenna. God knows how many characters you killed off in that story. This was pretty good-but the bit about the explosions on Cairo came as a surprise-not enough descriptive build-up. Other than that, a great story.

I appreciate a story from the viewpoints of the not so glamorous Starfleet officers, the foot soldiers, the small cogs who are nevertheless essential to keep the machine running smoothly.

The protagonist was likeable and the antagonist inconspicuous at first. I was perhaps a bit surprised to see this set in an alternate universe as it could have fit very well in the proper one as well.

The ending was surprisingly dark and not what you'd hope for.

A great little story that begs for some form of continuation at some point.

Author's Response:

It was originally written for an online Star Trek roleplaying game called Where No One Has Gone Before.  I had to keep it within the context of that storyline.

Thanks for reading! :)
