This is a really awesome Klingon scene. The deviousness, the plotting, the what's-in-it-for-me thinking... pure Klingon. But they're renegades - and that makes them even more interesting!

I like the mystery of this. You are unraveling the clues by degrees - very cleverly done in just a little ficlet. A very bold and exciting opening!

Nice! Love what you did here with a single two word prompt. G'Kurk is an interesting Klingon character, a little more devious and slow to react than a normal Klingon, which makes him more intriguing. And probably more deadly. Look forward to seeing where this goes next!

"The devil is in the details." Hmmm. Where have I heard that before? *whistles innocently*
Mati is a bit of a thickheaded newbie. He'd serve himself better by holding his tongue and watching ... but then, for someone as seemingly dense as he is, asking questions is necessary. He seems to need things explained to him.
It's lucky for him his uncle appears to be someone of influence. Without such a connection, I'm not sure his superiors would be as patient. This is an interesting look into a different kind of border patrol. I'm enjoying it. And hey, you used my prompt! w00t! :)

Okay so maybe these Klingons aren't just bloodthirsty. They seem clever as well, and patient, if you can believe that. I'm pretty sure there is no word for that in their dictionary. And am I reading this right? The Klingon Border Patrol is not considered a prestigious and honorable assignment? Inconceivable. At least Starfleet got this part .... uh, never mind.

But Klingons don't like to wait!
G'Kurk is right; they can wait for the Romulans' own investigation to turn up the information they need. In the meantime, have some blood wine and play Klingon scrabble.

Well you sure pulled the wool over my eyes with this one. Here I'm thinking this is just another routine Border Service boarding action and then .... Boom. Klingons! Bloodthirsty ones. Uh, like there is any other kind. Well done, sir, nicely played.
Author's Response:
I said to kes that I didn't think any deception on my part would work but it seemed to do so here. Which pleases me. Yes, part and parcel of Border Patrol actions just not the Border Patrol might be expecting. And the reveal to be blood thirsty Klingons is as effective as it seems to have been. I'm sure there are non-blood thirsty Klingons. I'm sure of it. Thanks for reading CeJay.

Wow, that's some opener! Are we dealing with military or pirates here? Were they traders or were they spies? Naturally, you set the hook and draw the reader in, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing if you reveal any answers in the course. XD Though, knowing you, you might just torment me indefinitely.
Author's Response:
Just for that, I think I will torment you indefinitely! Seems so much more deliciously evil.

The space descriptions were, as per usual, nicely done and the way Matilus responds to the Romulans was quick and without mercy -- what one would expect here if this MU (seems that way). I tend to think you got a twist coming ... but I'm eager to see where you go.
For the Glory of the Empire!
Author's Response:
Thankies trekfan. Oh yes, it could so easily be MU (the glory of the Empire indeed) but that's your baby and Sarine's. I'll allow you guys to keep your fiefdom (I've seen the scary shit you dream up - I ain't crossing you). Your mind is so nefarious that you would think I have a twist. Honest, I don't. (Or if I do, it has not occurred to me yet.) We will see where we go from here.

Klingons on a Romulan ship? Oh my! You may have no idea where this is going, but we're all anxious to find out! Good stuff!
Author's Response:
Ha! Thanks Sarine. let me tell you friend, you're not as anxious as I am to discover where this is going.

When the names started to (to my mind) be a little ... off, I realized these folks weren't human. Interestin' doings here so far ....
Author's Response:
Thanks jespah. I had tried writing it with just he/his but that seemed even more off. So Mati was a little close to human but could be different enough to be alien. But you're quick. Glad this was interesting - god knows what is next.

Oh, wow. That last bit was a total gut punch! You had me lulled into thinking Mati was a newbie to OUR beloved border dogs. Not so, and well played. My mouth fell open at that part.
Mati is a bit lucky he was dealing with simple traders, or at least the pretense of such. Somehow I doubt rushing headlong onto a smoke filled bridge would have ended well for him had the Romulans been prepared.
On an immature note, my inner third grader giggled at "foul booby trap."
Intrigued to see where this is going. Onward!
Author's Response:
Hee, hee. Honestly, I didn't think any deception on my part was going to work so I'm glad it did (obviously 3rd grade distractions helped to throw you off the scent - so immature). No, rushing headlong isn't the best notion - albeit somewhat Klingonesque although keeping your head seems Klingonesque too. But yeah, everybody has their own border patrol so it probably stands to reason they are similar but different.
