Obviously the washing beat me to it and I've only now gotten to read this chapter.
Poor Jimmy. Trapped in his own need for human interaction yet subconsciously forgetting that he isn't interacting with a human and shouldn't expect human responses. he knows it intellectually, but there are some aspects of our psyche that we don't quite have control over.
Lovely little point of view from our favourite captain. Thanks for writing and sharing.

Author's Response: Thanks, Nutty. That's the problem with our impulsive Jim Kirk - he wants, he needs, and often he doesn't stop to think about the best way to attain that goal, or what others might want or need. He doesn't always realize that what he sees as important or necessary may be perceived differently by someone else. He tends to reflect on the situation after he as already given in to his impulses, and it is often too late to do things right by then. You have explored this aspect of his personality in your works as well, the best example being the ficlet 'Revenge'. All he knows is Spock is hurt and he makes a snap decision as to the cause of it, the need for revenge, for punishment and accountability outweighing logical thought. He neglects to take a moment to assess the situation and discover the true reason behind Spock's injuries. Still waiting for a full story to develop around that piece ;-). Pretty please? Uh-hah! After the zero G scene I was sitting there thinking 'just wait until McCoy sees these two!' and was mildly disappointed we didn't get to see that scene in real time. But! You managed to target that exact scene and wrote it anyway :D So now I can read it :D Thanks so much for doing that. I enjoyed this. Though I have to say that Kirk and Spock's pain is a little hard to bear :( They beat each other up so much in 'Absolute Horizon' ::sigh:: Thank goodness we know that they eventually got back together...but not without a great deal of pain beforehand.
A great fic, thanks for writing and sharing.

Author's Response: Glad you enjoyed it. It was a scene I was awaiting with much anticipation as well, and was sorely disappointed when it didn't appear. But as fate would have it, both Anna and Steff dared me to write something, and so with Anna's blessing, this is what came from that challenge. Hats off to Anna for such a superb story, and for being gracious enough to allow a novice to play in her universe for a little while.

Oh, hell, Cuppy, this is beyond brilliant. Thank you for this, it is so moving. I feel myself strangely drawn to Kirk's part, most of all. Those additions you made are so touching and spot on. Absolutely inspired. Thank you for this.
