I like Joss. And not just because, perhaps coincidentally, that happens to be my 13 year old son's name (he goes by it, or Miah, which he chose himself when he was two).

Cyril's story is gripping and profound, and I loved the connection that developed so quickly about those two...

And I'm still smiling about those antennae enhancements!

Author's Response:

Oh, thank you! You're very kind.

Joss is (and his siblings, too) kind of an everychild. In so much of Trek, childhood is either one long miserable slog (nuKirk) or you're a genius (Wesley Crusher), it seems.

Joss, Marie Patrice, Tommy, Neil, and Declan live off the Earth and fly in rockets at times, etc., but they also go to Prom, engage in sibling rivalry, and need help finding their way. Kinda like kids really do. :)

Cyril is someone who in the MU is a torturer, but here he's an older guy and I didn't just want him to be Pamela's uncle or Cindy's grandfather. He's a person and he has a backstory like we all do.

Miah? How neat!

Doctor "Skip" really opened up to young Joss, though it was difficult for him to relate that wartime tale. He has given the budding veterinarian excellent advice.

It was funny how differently Auntie Pam...oops..."Pamela" and Skip expected Joss to address them. Kids have to walk a minefield of adult relationships, don't they?

Author's Response:

They sure do. These stories are a lot about identity. Pamela is the sort of person who wasn't treated too well, whereas Skip was held at arm's length. So now they want the opposite.

Thank you for reading!
