I like the use of paint and imagery evolving throughout the therapy session, almost like a parallel to the reveal of Lav'aura's feelings and emotional balance. Even without the other piece related to this read, it is clear she has under gone a huge ordeal, one that has challenged her and now irrevocably alters who is she, who she will be and makes her re-examine who she was.

Serving Starfleet as an exemplary officer has given Lav'aura a purpose and a strength and now the events that have transpired serve to endanger that purpose and undermine all that she has endured. Unspeakable things have happened to her and yet she has survived horrors as a child and had to make a choice to abandon family on Romulus in order to escape a life of slavery. Here, it seems she is willing to abandon hopes and dreams of the future in order to have family of her own again, to have blood she can relate to.

I gather she has the strength to be a parent and hope in a way she does. It speaks to me of one of my character (T'Vel) and what she has endured. However, you are writing this character living through those choices and starting down that life path of maybe raising a child of her own. That is a very intriguing character development arc and indeed a story telling challenge to take on. However, one I feel from this piece you are more than capable of doing justice to.

On a final note, I don't normally like Trek like counsellor sessions. I don't know why annd I admit to not knowing enough about the real thing. However, I liked the reveal behind some of what was going on here and the structure afforded by the counselling session. It served to tell the story and for me worked to present a very interesting character in Lav'aurua.

An interesting counseling session. Well written; I felt for Lav'aura as she worked through her pain, brush in hand.

Solid story, easy to get into without having to be up to speed with your early works.

Nice take on a Rihannsu version of Wolf, The mind gates between Lav'aura and Adrian make this a compelling tale.

Well done.

That was a very beautiful, well done look at this woman's past. It's heartbreaking, and you present enough of the story to understand everything clearly.

Looks like somebody likes to write about characters who struggle or a conflicted over their heritage. That's alright, you do it pretty well. I particularly liked the idea that she was painting Romulus while she explored her own feelings about that place and her people. In wonder though, don't Starfleet counselors have doctor-patient confidentially?

Author's Response: I suspect that it's like the modern military, in which if information comes up that impacts their ability (whether real or perceived) to perform their duties and uphold the standards of the Federation that the doctor needs to disclose it. Or at least, that's the assumption I am working under. Hard to tell because there's very little in the way of real world equivalent situations.

To quote a lyric from a song that is (forgive me) by Nickelback:

This is how you remind me
of what I really am

Well done!
