Interesting choice of story, I like how you skillfully managed to blend Star Trek with Japanese mythology in this story.

I like the crew reaction to the distress call and the senior crew trying to guess what they going to encounter and how to prepare.
I think the senior crew balance is varied and each seems to have there own voice.

I also enjoyed the John Mason POV paragraphs as it does an excellent job of establishing how scaring and seemingly unstoppable the Rodan attack was.

The demise of Glenda Ayers was the right side and the line of the arm hanging out of the beak was the right level of scare with out going unnecessary gory.

I sure I had as hard as John if I came face to face with that monster.

Then you do an excellent job of having the SAR team and the USS Sturgeon reactions start off by the book and having the Japanese officer drop the creature methodological name ‘Rodan’ just add to the building terror.

Still a top line that the result of the ship phasers and phaser rifles was to make it mad.

Then when it flies up to attack the USS Sturgeon and Trondheim realizing the danger of the creature hitting the ship, finding the phasers ineffective. Then it final gesture when it realizing it can’t escape the torpedo just adds to the impressive nature of the creature.

Trondheim and Tarrawa post combat discussion does feel correct for both the junior officer and the senior officer. Then the epilogue is a nice touch back to the Japanese horror movies.

All in all a different kind of trek story but well crafted and merge two distinct styles into one balanced story.
