Ugh!

 

Oh my goodness. A twisty ending there. I loved it.

I loved the detailing of the down on his luck officer and the dread of his assignment. The blotted CV and hang ups he has only compunded further by the new assignment. And then throughout the little details about shipboard life, meeting the CMO, his interests in Norden's recupperation, the warp trials and the slowly building ominous feeling that makes the reader dread the coming test too. Fantastically done. Especially liked the dream twist change of the former captain's voice to the current captain's. In the end, we're left wondering is this a dream or temporal loop or time travel experiment by accident. Terrific.

Author's Response: Thanks, Fave! This is one of my favorite short-stories I wrote for a TrekBBS challenge a few years back. I grew to like the characters and sorta regret assigning Kearsargeto her fate (whatever that might be). Thank you for reading and commenting.
