Very touching story Gates and feels to touch Scotty at his core. A good piece.

Author's Response: Thank you very much, MC.

That really hit home, for these are the kinds of pieces I like to write - and read.  I love stories that get into a character's head and help us to understand him or her a little better.  This definitely falls into that category, and I, too would like to see it expanded - not just where Connor is concerned, but encompassing all the members of this tight-knit group of friends, how they all came to be in that barn during the battle, and what the survivors went on to do after the fact.  Did they stay in touch over the years, or drift apart as their careers took them in different directions.  Did their careers take them in different directions?  You're sitting on a gold mine here of untapped potential.  Hopefully someday it will be realized and fleshed out.

Author's Response: Thank you, LBD. These are the kinds of pieces I most like to write as well. Not sure what the plans are for Connor and his cohorts yet, but these questions are putting thoughts into my head. Maybe over the summer, with no school, I can explore him a bit more. Hmmm.

For a short piece it is very absorbing. One is pulled in by the expectation of grief and sadness that Scotty is keen to put off. It hints at so much backstory and character development, I'm keen to know is the story of Connor and Scotty developed elsewhere or will be in the future.

Author's Response: Thanks so much for the kind words. The story of Connor and Scotty hasn't *yet* been developed elsewhere, but I would like to explore Connor and their relationship a bit more myself. I'd like to say it will be in the future, probably after I finish the two longer ST stories I am writing, but when that will be, I can make no promises. Hopefully, when school is out for the summer, I'll have more time.

Oh, that was truly lovely and poignant.

Author's Response: Thank you very much. This just seemed like a Scotty story.
