Glad Kevette didn’t get pressured into what Roland wanted, and stuck to her guns. He does come across as a total vain individual, who might like Kevette as his muse as long as she supported him. I’m glad she didn’t open the champagne and just end the relationship.
That was an interesting tale to tell and it was delivered well, thought I think in the first line you meant to say “be†not “me†and I think the line “And where will go?†seems to be missing a word. (Yes I know I’m not one normally to pick on grammar errors).
I’m enjoyed these little chapter into Kevette past a lot, keep up the good work.

I’m glad to see this WFW made it to the archive; this is a wonderful short story that I enjoy reading again. You capture a slice of life for the young Kevette that show where her love for flying comes from and how her parents have encourage her to realize her dreams.
While mum and Dad could of being just generic characters in this story, you’ve that the little actions of love for and from Kevette show in the special wings and the way she rushes to her mum when she back on the ground.
That was a wonderful feel good last paragraph.

Story nearly as old as time and this is surely not the first relationship Starfleet has broken up. But it was pretty obvious Roland wasn't the right man for her considering how self centered he turns out to be. And here they say artists are supposed to be sensitive types.
Author's Response: I know artists, and most of em are coo ( I am one myself) but some of em can be odd, full of themselves or get in a zone where the work or creating is the only thing in the world. Writing Kevette walking out was easy, getting there was a trick, but I think it turned out okay. Thanks for the comments.

Neat background here. If this were a contemporary story she would have aimed to become an airplane pilot but in the 23rd century you aim for the stars instead. Nice. Not every kid gets to fulfill her fantasy.
