Damn. That was harsh. That was tough. I can't believe she died from that and the guilt, the guilt has to be killer for even Spock. The confrontation, the tension, the emotions, the feelings ... all rang true. He didn't even get to say goodbye and, from start to finish, I was enthralled.

I'm hoping that woman gets her due in the future. A contract sealed in blood is all well and good, but karma is a bitch and she will make that woman pay. Well done.

Good gracious, great balls of fire ... wow. Six paragraphs in I was going "Damn, she's good" and you didn't disappoint. The relationship born here is a whirlwind romance, which we only got to see really, once in TOS with "All Our Yesterdays". Spock had an out there, seeing as his primal Vulcan side was reestablishing himself, but here he has no such out.

He's smitten, badly so, and the more time he spends with her the more he knows he should get away, to spare them both the inevitable pain, but he can't spare them both the inevitable pleasure of their company.

The description here was top notch and, like other authors on this site, makes me quite envious. Word choices were amazing (there's a better word, but I don't know it) and the way you build the world in such a short span of time blows me away. You don't just build the world, you build the people too in such a short span. It's all well done.

Moving on.

Author's Response:

Thanks, trekfan, for all the wonderful, encouraging comments about "A Taking of Leave". Read the next story, "Cristabeth", for more of sweet Justrelle, and find out what becomes of Spock's daughter. The series, read in order, will take our favorite Vulcan in some very interesting directions.
