Brutal.  Just absolutely brutal stuff, made more painful by how beautifully rendered it is.

I cannot believe you leave this story here. What happened to Sam, of course, is absolutely unacceptable. It's a damn crying shame the military hasn't moved past such stupidity by then. But, clearly, as long as you have human beings, you'll have deeply flawed human beings, and so long as you have those, you'll have some sick ones who totally need to be wiped out.

Over all, it's a truly excellent story. It's gritty, it's real, it's well-paced and it's a very engrossing read (this is how it ate an entire afternoon, and evening, of my life today.) I really hope you keep going with it; it'd be a shame, given your talents and given your truly awesome stable of characters here, to leave it hang. So, fingers on the keys, funn. Let's see what's out there.

Oh, those guys are nasty. To the max. I like how Ariah walked off on Nolte; a damn shame she didn't stay off, if you ask me. He's a scumbag, and so's Walker, and I hope they all get theirs for it.

Aw, man, I so love it. I love that they took the fight to the hyper-competent other side, and that they are now blowing them away. I love J.J.'s hand signals, his awesome grasp of strategy, and I can't wait to see more of this play out.

Yes, please, I do want to watch this. But as a note, Seth's compassion -- I totally get it. And J.J.'s attempted dismissal, I've heard echoed many times before.

And it seems you're setting the world up for some civil unrest here, what with Danny and Earth First, and with the tanking economy. I shall be fascinated to see how that actually plays out.

Finally, I get to see some of how J.J. was made of total win and awesome. I loved Sam's POV here, and the way you capture the feeling of belonging settling in, where before it was uncertainty and anxiety. Brilliant.

And here, Vanessa continues to be wholly debatable. I woulda been with Ariah myself, though; going out would have done me absolutely no good, to my mind, after something like that.

Well, that was a miserable call. But he's right, they are different. Things are different. I know she's setting herself up for a fall, but I still hope she has a good time anyway.

WHAT?! Okay, it's a good chapter, but I need to know how J.J. did! I mean, obviously he did well, given Nagumo's line in there, but I need to know the details and you're not giving them to me? Cruel, man. So very.

Pitkin and Pierce are so much more competent than Nolte. And so's Carmichael. I like the way this is playing out, and dammit, I keep jumping to the next chapter without a break. Congratulations on some desperately engaging writing.

Way to pull yourself back up out of the pits of immaturity, Ariah. Lord. You're still killing me, funn, and I have to go to work soon. But I have to ask: Why the hell isn't this story finished yet?! I INSIST you finish it, immediately! ...after the RR. Or during. But finish it, for Chrissakes, every chapter is like candy.

Go J.J., go! And Ariah, Ariah. Yes, there are times to bark, but he didn't do anything he deserves barked at for here! Not exactly the time to go and try to rip into him.

Yup, it's pretty much the end of the world as they know it. But indeed, where is Carmichael? I'm going to hope -- so so much -- that he is about to pull off a brilliant move.

Shoulda gone with J.J.'s plan. Good, I'm glad they took Nolte out. Maybe now he can stop screwing up all of their last chances.

Oh, man. About to go raining down the fire, apparently, on that poor beleaguered group. Somehow, you've managed to keep me reading well past the time I should have been doing SOMETHING ELSE. Damn you and your wholly engaging cadets and writing skills. ;)

Because war is hell. But if nothing else, the man can certainly train others. I mean, damn with this utter massacre going on here, and I still hope Nolte gets shot in the head for being an arrogant, stupid jerk.

Nolte continues to be a ^%$#%*ing idiot, and Pitkin totally is trying to salvage a cluster of a sitation, and I sure as heck hope he does it. Though at this point it is totally damage control.

"And, if it matters, I for one, welcome our new military overlord."

Oh my God, Seth, I love you.

I also love that J.J. is finally putting it together. I just hope he has the brass to go and do something about it. Nolte's a %^#^ing idiot. I mean, so clearly one, standing up there like a big walking target of blatantly stupid.

Ha! You do not doubt it. Nagumo seems to be setting them up, and I still want to see J.J. pull off a last minute stroke of genius to pull this one out of the fire. If ever a cadet could, it would have to be that one.
