I loved this! What a beautiful way to make sense out of an essentially non-sensical, forgettable episode. This was a very powerful, emotionally gripping scene with regard to the Kirk-Spock dynamic, and I like it that you took the bold step of making us privy to Spock's thoughts so that we were able to see the progression of his actions as the entity attempted to take control of the ship.
I like it, too that it was the thought of 'controlling' Kirk that allowed Spock to break the alien's hold over his mind and actions. It's surely something Spock would never do, and I like that it was Spock's calm, controlled presence that brought Jim back to himself. Nice work, as always. :D

Nice look at Spock thoughts and actions during that key scene in the children shall lead. Was a good view on Spock as he fights his inner beast and how what he thinks and how he acts.

I confess I really don't recall the episode, but the idea of losing control has to be particularly chilling for both parties. And for Spock to essentially disobey, in the context of feeling that he is doing the right thing, well, that is Spock all over. That is exactly how he would justify such an action.

Thank you, Jespah! It's actually a pretty forgettable episode--definitely not on anyone's top 10 list. But it does have that moment in the turbolift, where Spock and Jim are face to face, and Spock simply says Jim's name, and Jim is able to come back to himself, and that moment is so powerful it really stayed with me. And I'm always glad (and slightly relieved) when anyone says that I've gotten Spock's character right, so thank you for saying that! I always appreciate your thoughtful reviews!
