Punchy, at times tense, good story FalseBill. Getting better and better all the time.

Author's Response: Thank you.

A nail-biting ending that climaxed on a bittersweet note.  I love how you worked The Preservers in here, implying that their destruction would lead to the annihilation of many other Federation races.

This was a top-notch effort, tying in so many eras and ideas from the Trek universe, and meshing all that together with seven free writes.  I get the impression that one has to read this piece several times to uncover all the gems hidden within. Great job of weaving so many plots, characters and timelines together into one cohesive story. :-)

Author's Response: Why thank you for reading and reviewing Lil black dog. I think you give me far to much credit here, but thank you very much for all your kind words and encouragement.

Nice use of the catch-phrase from the previous chapter to help Douglas identify Daniel's true identity.  This plot just keeps getting thicker and thicker - just went from pea soup to oatmeal.  But seriously, FB lots of nice twists and turns in here to keep the reader guessing.

Author's Response: I'm glad you still enjoying the twists and turns and that you think I've manage to keep the reader guessing.

I like very much the idea here that the Chilo would go back in time and try to kill a younger, more vulnerable version of Douglas in hopes of extinguishing the threat before it ever had the chance to become one.

Interesting that that event was what cemented Douglas's desire to join Starfleet.  Ah, the best-laid plans of mice and men...or Chilo...;-)

Author's Response: Yes a lot of people think that did seem in character for the Chilo. Yes that plan did back-fire a bit on the Chilo.

Well, some help received on several fronts.  At least now Douglas has a clearer view of what he must do.

And let me take this opportunity to commend you on tying all these free writes together.  Had I been asked, I would've said it would be nigh on impossible to mesh all of these topics into one cohesive story, but you're managing it quite nicely.  Kudos to you, sir. :)

Author's Response: Why thank you very much Lil black dog. May I take the opportunity to thank you for the Beta read help, which is Kudos to you Madam. :)

A short chapter, but at least some time for Douglas to get his bearings, catch his breath, and get some much-needed medical help.  But only a brief respite, as now he must figure out a way to deal with the threats and issues at hand.

Author's Response: Indeed a brief respite for Douglas but he does have a challenge ahead. Cheers for reading.

As sad as this chapter was, I liked the fact that Douglas took the time to reflect on what James meant to him.  Very evocative of Jim Kirk, and the feelings of sadness and remorse he displayed (usually through facial expressions, not verbally) on the loss of a crewmember.

Poor Douglas.  Now he is injured and all on his own, having to find a way to deal with and stop this threat.

Author's Response: Aye, a good captain should care about those under their command. cheers for reading and reviewing.

Off to a good, engaging start.  Unfortunately I didn't have time to keep up with the RR, so I was wondering where the Chilo came from--whether they were your idea or canon characters.  Good use of them, and a way to make them shine in their own right.

Author's Response: Well I'm glad the start engage you. As for the Chilo, their a creation of SLWalker for Ad Astra which she kindly let me shine another light on.

Ah, a fitting end for the bastards. Good riddance.

And quite a lead-in to our current adventures. Or is this taking place at the same time? Afterwards? Oh dear. Wibbly wobbly timey wimey indeed. Good to see the end of the Chilo threat for now, but way to put humans at the top of the hit list, Douglas, lol.

Not too bad, bud. A nice, short adventure. I think the Chilo are shaping up to be Ad Astra's own personal bad guy group.

Author's Response: It does feel good to finish to do the Chilo. I would say it happening at the same time but with all Wibbly wobbly timey wimey it hard to be sure how to fit in relations into the multiverse II story. Glad you liked the adventure, I think you're right the Chilo are Ad Astra's own big bad.

Oh you silly Klingon, thinking you were born with a bat'leth in your hand. *sigh* Always important to pay attention. Good to see Douglas was. The ending line of it was great, and I totally called it from the start, probably just like him.

Author's Response: :-D Glad it feel like a nature reveal for those paying attention. Glad you like the ending line.

I just got done watching a Doctor Who episode that did this very thing, altering the past experiences of a character and having that person suddenly remember everything as it was happening. A lot of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff here...Pretty cool idea to roll with. And not a bad job on the execution, either.

Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing.

heh...that was a nice chuckle at the end. Hooray for the Doctor's sarcasm.

This is really starting to feel like a dungeon-crawler kind of story with the way the TIC is a maze to Douglas. I keep waiting for a random Chilo to jump out and then some good fight music start up. It's got a nice feeling of suspense and unknown to it. Hope Doc can fix his hand though...

Author's Response: Yes the EMH sarcasm does work well as an ending. Glad you enjoyed the story so far.

GAH!! OWWW!!

Good quick thinking but OWWW!!

I loved loved loved the quote from James in this, and it's absolutely true. I could picture any number of officers saying those exact words at different times; the Romulan War. The Klingon cold war. The wars with the Cardassians. The Dominion War. Battles against the Borg. Never have such truer words been spoken. I'll have to remember that line for later on.

Author's Response: Thanks. Feel free to use the quote in your own stories.

grr...the Chilo. What a pain in the rear they've been for the RR, and how delightful it's been to have your crew taking them on in their own way on the side.

That is one helluva "secret" word, though. How do you even pronounce that word? lol What happened the first few times when his crew got tongue-tied trying to say it? lol

Author's Response: Indeed hence why I took SLWalker Chilo and gave them a side mission. Yes it is a bit of a secret word, still no danger of an accident use :) Cheers for reading & reviewing.

Bittersweet ending, and things are safe for now.

A wild ride!

Of course you know I adore time travel stories. They are a great device for bringing people together who really aren't meant to be together, and can be great fun. And yours was!

Well done.

Author's Response: Thanks for reading, I'm glad you enjoy your wild ride and despite the bittersweet ending you had fun. thanks for reading and taking the time to review.

Jobs to do! It's a meme!

Yeah, I was wondering why he was saying that (and now I know!).

Author's Response: It's just a meme but somehow that innocent phrase becomes very loading when you know the Chilo.

Ah, and Daniels appears - and yes, it makes sense, sort of like the Terminator films (and Star Trek: First Contact), that the Chilo would go for a weaker and smaller version, in the past, and try to defeat that instead. But of course that can create a temporal paradox.

Author's Response: Well they do want to destroy the universe so creating a temporal paradox might reduce their work load for them. Well I couldn't have Douglas wandering around the T.I.C. and not have Daniels appear, now could I?

And the plot thickens!

Good way to tie the WFWs together - and now it's a race against time ....

Author's Response: Glad you like it so far and that the ties do feel natural not forced. The clock is ticking indeed.

Well, this isn't starting off well for Douglas at all! At least he's alive for the moment.

Author's Response: Well while they is life there is hope.

Eek!

I remember this WFW - and now - oh no - the Chilo!

They are a rather useful enemy, eh?

Loved the nod to the cabal and the Temporal Cold War. And of course the TIC. :)

Author's Response: Yes the Chilo are a useful enemy. Yes I thought you might like the TIC reference :)
