A nice little "how the other lives" story. We didn't see much TOS revolving the around the regulars not named Kirk, Spock, or McCoy. And a good idea to have this piece start from Sulu's POV, as he was probably most under-appreciated and under-used of all the main characters.

And one at a time, enter Uhura, Scotty, and Chekov. Fun to hear about some of the major action sequences through their eyes and ears. Leave it to Chekov to throw some humor into the banter amongst a tired crew even when he isn't in the best of health.

I can see certainly see how the bridge crew can't help but worry about Kirk and the danger he gets himself into. I feel it's often important in prose storytelling to portray other characters' sense of doubt even when the reader has the sense that things will turn out all right in the end. That was nicely. On the other hand, they can't help feeling that Kirk is invincible since that turns to be very often the case in the long run until Generations. :(

What a poignant vignette! I love hearing them all worry about Kirk--with good reason--and I love hearing that no matter how hard they're working, Spock makes sure they get rest, and then takes the work on himself. Well done!

Just stumbled across this, and it was a gem!  So nice to see the 'big four' in a moment of quiet and relaxation, away from all the angst and frenetic moments we are used to.  And yet, in spite of the levity, there were some angsty moments interspersed throughout.

All four of them rang true to character:  Sulu unsure of which of his hobbies to pursue at the moment; Uhura wanting to mother them all; Scotty only getting animated when his 'bairns' were mentioned, and Chekov soldiering on despite being ill.

It was a pleasure to read.  Thanks!

I really enjoyed this. A nice glimpse into a little of the team's 'real life' in a sense. We normally only see the drama and the action. It is nice to see a quiet moment, that we can all appreciate having had them ourselves.

And it is good to see the other four characters getting the spotlight, too.

Thanks for writing and sharing.

Author's Response: Thank you for reviewing this one as well! I'm really glad you enjoyed it - for all that I love reading and writing plotty adventure-type fic, it's nice to be able to play with some downtime as well. :)

Very nice...I love the repartee between the various crew members--it kind of reminds me of the feeling I get from some of Diane Duane's TOS books.

Another interesting note...I like how you can hear Chekov's accent without your being overbearing in the way you wrote him.  It's all in the very subtle turns of phrase.  I'm not even sure how to explain it, but it works great. :-)

Author's Response: *blush* Thank you so much! I'm glad the banter came across well - and it's always a relief to know Chekov's accent comes through without having to resort to phonetic spelling. ;)

This was sweet. A really touching and caring shot of the TOS family. Neither light, nor dark, but a little bit of both and more. Just like life. ;-)
