The dog sheds, the guinea pig smells, and the snake terrifies him, but the tarantula is cute. I wonder how he would have reacted to a tribble.

Gloriously funny, as it usually is when it comes to your Torres and Shand. Seems they were a comedy duo from the very beginning in their cadet dorms. I mean their partnership is an odd one in many ways and this exemplifies it - but its that way because they are both rather peculiar in their own ways. Joe as cadet deciding he wants a pet and rushing out (repeatedly) to get one. Then Shand and his funny ways of thumbs downing the pets (especially the snake) only to turn around and LIKE the tarantula. Ibbie jibbies. gah. Anyway, a heck of a funny bit.

Well Mistral that was an entertaining little tale.

It did make sense for the Andorian Shand to like Sarah the Tarantula of all the foul Terran animals that Joe brought home as a trial.

You did a good job of introducing readers to the two characters and showing their respected characters by picking up Joe worries about graduating and Shand comment on his Carousing all hours.

While Shand workaholic studying is pick out by what he’s doing each time Joe does bring a new candidate pet home.

I also get the feeling rightly or wrongly from his statement of dislike of the dog that he a bit OCD about tidiness if he bothered by the fur and crumbs. Plus I’m sure a good house trained dog doesn’t go everywhere. Also his major complaint about Cats being they don’t obey orders clear shows a tendency for a potential control freak.

Still I full agree with Shand for his reasons for rejecting the rodent option 

Nice to see even the harden Andorian want nothing to do with the Snake, it help break the character over seriousness and keep the humour of the story going. Shand must have been loud to get through a supposedly sound proof door.

Did like that Shand found Sarah cute, it was a great way to mellow the character and by highlighting Joe uneasy about proposing it and the freak out Cadets in the hall way, you able to play on the underlying oddity of Human behaviour and how to an alien they might see weird double standards.

So great story idea, well executed and enjoyable read.

That was certainly an entertaining little story. And apparently Andorian's really dig spiders. Who knew?

Ha! I love it. Of course Shand would not want any of the actual cute critters and instead instantly bond with a giant, oogie spider. Terrific!
