I have always loved the Trill as a concept; the idea is a delicious one. The concept of two beings, joined yet separate, with hundreds, if not thousands of memories. A kind of sane schizophrenia in some ways, I suppose.

To see that they got their joining from another joined species almost begs the question - and how were the Phedians originally joined? And on and on, like it's turtles all the way down.

A lovely and intelligent story, working perfectly with canon and fan fiction!

Samuel Pengraff, a interesting story, you take the time to paint the bleak scene and the slow truth behind the neuron bomb attack and the believed vs. true reasons of the Pholanan actions.

well done

Author's Response: Thank you!

Wow. That is a genuinely exquisite story. Poetic, even, in the way you wove it around the numbers, and what it is to be a part of something greater. Just gorgeous.

Author's Response: I’m so happy you enjoyed my story. I've read a number of yours, and you certainly provided many examples of good storytelling over the years. Some of it had to rub off on me eventually! :) Someday soon, I hope, I will try writing stories again. In the meantime I have more recovery to do, and I hope you will be patient with me until then. - Sam.

Wow! That's one neat theory explaining how the Trill became joined! Also I particularly liked your use of the neutron bomb as a plot device, you described the effects very well and the first person account was both riveting and harrowing.

Good job!

Author's Response: Thank you LNX, for your generous praise. You’re right, of course, that was a neutron bomb. I try to keep every story technically correct, whether or not that technology is overtly exposed in the narrative & dialog or not.

I loved this when I read it two years ago and still love it today.  It is simply beautiful, the generosity of spirit and affection embodied by the friendship of the four captured effortlessly in stunning and fluid prose.

You know I'm a TOS girl, so this was my first introduction to the Trill, and what an introduction it was.  I  immediately identified with Imrani and her friends, and feel like I was given a window into the soul of the Trill, which has led to an instant understanding of their culture and history; of who they are and why.  I know it's been said before, but you do possess an uncanny knack for origin stories. ;-)

I'm so glad you finally decided to post this story here.  It is a precious gem that deserves to be viewed and enjoyed by as many people as possible.

PS Welcome back!  You were sorely missed! :D

Author's Response: Thank you, Lil Black Dog, I am truly humbled, and happy, that I could return some of the enjoyment I have derived from the superb and rapidly growing body of excellent work you have written. A while ago, for another story, you told me to “lavish attention and affection on it”, and ever since I have tried to follow that advice, that wisdom, for all my stories. Thank you for making such a positive contribution to me, and to the many other writers your life has touched. ~ Sam.
