This was brilliant! I am constantly amazed at the width and breadth of imagination fanfic writers have and just where they can take the worlds that they love. Who else but one of us would have imagined writing a cooking story set aboard the Enterprise! You did a great job with all of the characters, as usual, bringing just the right angle to their voices and reactions. I loved how you managed to get almost all of the TOS crew involved and used their choice of food to give us a little insight into their character. You especially did a good job rounding out the character of Chekov, who is often given short-shrift in both the canon and non canon stories - the idea of him taking up gardening because he couldn't stand having something that there that didn't have a logical use really says a lot about him.

Ditto with Scotty - though I wouldn't expect anything less from you. His hidden talent was one thing but having him unable to resist sharing it with his crew mates, all the way down to the chef (who everyone seems to be a bit scared of) was a wonderful touch. I think Scotty has been especially misserved on the new Star Trek, turned into little more than comedic fodder, but you do a great job in all of your fic showing what he can be.

The dialogue was snappy and true to the voices of the characters, without devolving into parody, which with these characters we all know and love so much it is surprisingly easy to do. There was just enough descriptive prose for us to get a sense of scene, especially in the cooking segments - I was imagining my father-in-law's home made lasagna (he's Italian) while reading the last sections and my mouth is still drooling... :)

A wonderful job here on what could be a "small" story but still allows us to get a better grasp of all these characters, the TOS crew we all love. A testament to fanfic can be great stuff without needing to be epic AU retellings [cough]. ;) Well done!

A fun, well-done story. I could practically smell the delicious aromas wafting through the good ship Enterprise. Who would have thought that Scotty was good in the kitchen? And actually enjoys cooking?

The interplay between these familiar characters was realistic. I could just see Kirk calling his senior officers to a briefing about a "renegade cook". He would definitely try to pull rank and get in on some of that tasty home-cooked food.

This was awesome!  It only makes sense that Scotty's a good cook, given his background, and cooking really is a lot like engineering, just a lot less mechanization involved. ;)

I do so love stories that look at day-to-day life, far removed from space battles, diplomatic functions, and the traumas that often ensue after "routine" landing party duties.  There had to be a significant amount of downtime in TOS, much as there is in the branches of the service of today, military actions, skirmishes and unexpected events notwithstanding.

A  great slice of life piece, with all the characters' actions and voices ringing so true.  Bravo, madam. :D

Warning: Do not read this story on an empty stomach as it may cause a sudden and immediate desire for Italian and/or Mexican food.

Empty stomach or not though, really funny tale on what Scotty and the crew are up to in those few hours a day when they are not saving the galaxy from Klingon invasions, Romulan designs or omnipotent creatures gone amok.

Yeah, they cook and enjoy good food. And apparently, in outer space, pre-replicators, that's not something easily accomplished.

Author's Response: I figure that when you're pretty far from fresh produce, you spend a lot of time making due with rations of various types. Thanks so much!

Nothing moves faster on a starship than gossip. I doubt it will be long before everybody knows that Scotty can cook.

(Think you could get him to cook for us?)

Author's Response: You'd have to ask him. XD

Hee, hee. Delightful. And I love how the detail is not so much that Scotty is a chef/cook but that he can't stand for anyone to know about and so ensues a game of secrecy, bribery, blackmail and trading in order to cook the meals. I also like the slice of life stuff on a starship and especially the chef factor - especially given that we saw it in ENT and it probably stands to reason that there still had to be an element of such by TOS time.

I also liked Chekov and the reasoning behind his sticking to the gardening. Seems very Russian. Seems quite like Chekov and of course very much in keeping that it would trigger all of the ensuing.

Author's Response: This story has a lot of ties to other stories. XD Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked it.

An another wonderful Scotty story from your digital pen.

It the way it seems so perfectly in character for Mr Scott which is a credit to your writing as always.

Author's Response: Thank you. Most of these were written over thirteen years; I'm glad you like 'em.
