This was a great little scene to bookend Bethany's running scene. And Hank is absolutely right - it all does not matter that much if you have to do it all alone, and without someone to love.

Sometimes, the greatest explorations, and the most important discoveries, are the ones that come from within the self, and in a beloved's eyes.

Beautiful, poignant, and utterly believable.

Man, it's crazy when fiction makes my own proposal seem so inadequate (had the perfect set up and location, totally forgot how I wanted to say it and wound up not being anything close to perfect. *sigh* oh well). ANYWAY, like SLWalker made note, it was very natural and human, and definitely the perfect proposal from one Starfleet explorer to another. I'm not *entirely* sure on the backstory for these two - you're on my deployment to-read list - but you made a very tantalizing hint at such an incredible adventure that these two have shared so far, that makes their future endeavor that much more wonderful and exciting. And now that I'm getting to know Bethany better, it's fun to see her in this kind of setting and to see her so happy, but to also see just how human she is for an alien. Can't wait to read more of these two!!

Author's Response:

Yes, this piece kinda made my brain hurt. Getting things right wasn't so much an editing process as it was a timing thing ... Hank wanted to gush. But honestly there was no need for such gushing, he knew what he wanted to say but it all came out at once. Once I got him to the point where I could actually understand what he was wanting to say, this piece came off pretty easy. The two have a significant history with one another. The Chronicles series covers a good bit of it, as does a few of the earlier pieces in this series here. I look forward to seeing what you think of it when you get time to read. Thanks for the review :)

And another delightful installment in the lives of two of my favorite people. Hank is so big-hearted. It's impossible not to love him, and I love how he worked his way up to the proposal here; eloquent, but human. I wonder how many times he practiced what to say, but I get the feeling that he ended up just going from the heart anyway.

It's delightful. And lovely. And another happy, warm piece that is so very well-deserved for both of them.

Author's Response:

Hank did indeed go from the heart, at least in story. In the writing process, this was a bit of trial and error until I got him calm enough that I could understand what he was trying to say. It all kinda gushed out and it still does in spots here, but he's way more understandable here than in the intitial writing process. The happiness is something the two def deserve after all the torture I've visited on them for years. Thanks for the review. :)
